Ok so today's issue of Airways News Online states that Cathay Pacific has deferred an order for up to 10 A380s due to the SARS epidemic.

WTF?

They are also delaying delivery of Airbus A340-600, A330-300 and Boeing 777-200 and 777-300 aircraft betwen now and 2004 due to SARS.

I am not too sure about the A380 though. I don't recall them actually ordering the aircraft but may have been interested in them.

Yeah that was my point... I don't recall there ever being an order to defer.

We have on order one A340-600, three 777-300s and three A330-300s. Cathay has asked the manufacturers if they can defer the deliveries, but they are only expected to be able to get a little delay time. After that, the deliveries will be accepted. It is a little late to significantly defer these aircraft without Cathay having to pay a significant penalty....something the airline is not willing to do.

As for the A380s, they were only talks. No decision had been made about numbers, or indeed whether the aircraft was even going to be ordered. All talks regarding new aircraft orders have stopped, and that includes talks for a fleet of 777-300ERs.
