Does Anybody Know The Status Of Deutsche BA?

Given the fact that Easyjet is no longer holding onto the option to buy DBA, does anybody know what the current and future status of DBA is? Is it still losing money and how is it performing in the market? I remember reading an article a year or so ago about how the CEO of DBA was considered to be an up and coming "young something" - is he still there? Any news more than welcome...

Deutsche BA is still operating and still losing money... British Airways will provide financial background as long as necessary to build/change DBA into a "real" No Frills airline... Then there has a new buyer to be found. So, DBA is growing in the moment, they'll start a lot of european routes in the next weeks/month... That's all I know about their status in the moment...

So I suppose, he was more like "up and going". Big grin

Adrian Hunt was 57 at the time of his retirement, not exactly "young something". Wyatt is 49, not exactly young either....

I guess you are referring to Carl Michel, an Oxford and Harvard-graduate who became Deutsche BA's CEO in 1997 at the age of 33. He was a protegé of Bob Ayling and widely tipped as a possible Ayling successor. Ayling promoted Michel to Commercial Director of British Airways in summer 1999 and Michel was replaced at Deutsche BA by Adrian Hunt (who was Michel's COO before).

After Bob Ayling was replaced as BA's CEO by Rod Eddington in 2000, Eddingtopn cleaned the house from Ayling's buddies. As Carl Michel faced the axe, he left the company in November 2000. Michel became CEO of Ision, the German web-hosting and e-solutions group bought by Energis, in 2001. Ision went bancrupt in 2002. In April 2003, he became Director of Product Strategy at OPODO, the internet travel platform.

Cheers... many thanks for the replies. Carl Michael was the chap I was think of (clearly I read that article more than a year ago - time flies!). Just a quick further question though... how committed is BA to DBA? If they have already tried to sell it and if it is still losing money, why don't they just shut it down?

I think they'll not shut it down because the no frills market is now growing really fast in germany... Deutsche BA just changed to such an airline.... (it was a full service airline some months ago) Maybe they want also a piece of that huge cake.... Just a thought...
