Metro International was formed by Flying Tigers in 1981.The plan was to operate domestic and international charter flights.

The first flight(a charter) was New York to Tel Aviv on 29th March 1981.

The first scheduled flight was between JFK and BRU on 25th March 1982,a ORD-BRU service was soon added.

This unit never made any money for Flying Tiger,it was sold in 1983 and re-organised as Tower Air.

The aircraft used were x SQ 742's.

Hope that is of some help.

I remeber the metro flts thru BRU halfway the 80's
they flew tlv-bru-jfk and VV
the flightnumbers were, if I recall well, FF030-FF031
their slogan (in Belgium at least) was " take the metro to new-york"
Hope this helps a bit

Metro International was the passenger charter division of Flying Tigers. They began flying in 1981 with three former Singapore Boeing 747's and one DC-8-63.
I flew with them on a charter to Rome Ciampino in the summer of 1981 on one of the 747's. The 747's had a total passenger capacity of 480 including a business section on the upper deck. The service was standard coach class at the time which consisted of dinner (no choice) and a continental breakfast prior to landing. Headsets and alcoholic drinks were an extra cost. I recall that our flight was over 2 hours late in departing and returning to JFK. The return flight stopped in Brussels for refueling, catering, and a crew change. However we were not allowed to deplane during the 2 hour stop. The crew was very friendly but the aircraft interior needed attention.

I believe the company began scheduled service to Brussels in 1982. The Rome and Tel Aviv charters transitioned through Brussels. Once the company stopped flying, the tour organizer who contracted the Tel Aviv charters (Tower Travel) took over and the airline became Tower Air.
