I'm no real fan of the China Eastern colours, but i do have to say it looks quite nice on this bird.
What do you guys think?

The MU color scheme is really good and it looks great on the A340-600. Then again, what scheme doesn’t look great on this bird! How many are they receiving and on what routes will they be operated on? I think they were ordered to replace the MD-11s?

That must be the AC A345 in the background.

Hkg82;
Yes, your observation seems correct. I guess this is proof that those AC345s never left France at all - Not flown to YUL; Not flown to MHV (...or anywhere else, for that matter)

Did I just read yesterday that MU is deferring their Airbus & Boeing deliveries due to SARS?

I say that because as far as I know, AC has only ordered the A345 & not the A346 (please correct me if I'm wrong here).

The above pic shows the AC A345 ready to depart on its delivery flight (I assume it's the delivery flight, doubt they would still be test-flying the aircraft after painting the plane in the airline's colors). So does that mean the first picture featuring the MU A346, shows another AC A345 waiting to be delivered to AC? But I thought AC deferred delivery of the A345s?

The picture of the Air Canada A345 landing shows it....er...landing. Not preparing to be delivered. It can be seen with the French test-registration still. Aircraft are usually flight tested with their colour scheme already applied. The aircraft is probably ready to be delivered, but maybe it has not been.

Huh? Just before I posted, the picture Alpha posted was of an AC A345 taxiing out for departure on its first flight in Tolouse, and after I posted, the picture changed!

Appears that post was edited.."[Edited 2003-05-10 17:17:58]"

I seem to recall hearing that AC did order the 346s, also... But, I doubt any were (... nor will be) built for them.

I thought AC kept changing its mind about a mix of 345s and 346s
at one point it was 5 346s then 2 345s and 4 346s and then it changed, last i heard it was only 5 345s and NO 346s.

Its hard to say what they ordered, just as hard to say, will they be recieving any of the ordered aircraft?

From what I know , AC ordered both A340-500 and A340-600 , but i know they are supposed to take delivery of the -500 first and the -600 few months later ( not too sure about -600 delivery ) .

Anyway , about China Eastern A340-600 , that livery looks great on the aircraft , i wonder which routes will they fly to . Anyone knows ?

All three of MU's first 340-600s are painted and stored here. Only that first one is flying, and when I took the photo that was its first flight.
The Air Canada aircraft have been doing various things, but most will be stored. I heard there was a deal to lease them to someone else that is still being thought out.
MU said they dont want their 346s until at least 2004...  Sad

Aircraft are usually flight tested with their colour scheme already applied.
Actually, more and more Airbus is flight testing aircraft un-painted. This is a big hassle for us spotters though!  Angry

Air Canada has 2 345s and 3 346s on order. As most of you know by now, their future is unknown. Prior to the bankruptcy, the first AC 346 was originally deferred to be delivered next year.

There is a rumour that QF will trade in their B747-300s for the AC A340-500s.
