Anyone have any idea why this UAL 777-200 is stopping in MSP? I noticed it make the turn north of Duluth and head down our way. Curiosity has me wondering of course.

Thanks for any input.

David

Says it shoudl be leaving for London after only 20 minutes on the ground. Doubt it is mechanical. Maybe it's a medical emergency, or an air rage incident.

Will be interesting to see if there is any more info. Wish I could get to the Airport quickly, would love to see it come in. But it is raining and nasty here.

In Amadeus flifo it shows "Due to Cust" which I guess means due to Customs.

What does that mean? They wanted to get someone or something off the plane?

Pilottim747, Care to share any of your good spotting sites... ha ha. I have about 6 places I like to go, but am always interested in others locally.

Of course, don't want to have this thread stray too far of course (no pun intended).

Here's my spotting sites:

--Spotting parking parking lot along Post Rd. Where I usually go, just because it's easy and convenient. Some good views of runway 12R/30L and the F,G Concourses.

--On top the parking garages. A favorite to get views of both runways at once, unfortunately the terminal blocks views of the gates.

--From the hill inside the Ft. Snelling National Cemetary. This is my favorite to view 12R/30L. I descretely make my way to the airport end and climb the hill (pretty sizeable). Great view from on top (no fences in the way, either).

--Near the Ft. Snelling golf course. Use it to view runway 12L/30R and the A, B, C, D, & E Concourses. Haven't been there lately because there's contruction for the light rail connection right there.

How about you?

I wasn't sure if the Parking Garages were allowable  Smile

The Cemetary is one of the best, gets you over the fences etc. I have been asked to leave (very politely) from there on 2 or 3 occations.

I like Taft Park for arrival shots (when photographing) as they approach from the west (Traffic using 12R).

There is also a park and some ballfields just to the north of the Crosstown, I think its 28th street. (Traffic using 12L)

Although under construction at present, you can park under 494 off highway 13 and walk down to the river. Again, great views to both runways when the planes are arriving from the east (30L and 30R)

Does anybody go to the frontage road before Ft Snelling Park to watch the arrivals on 30L or have they closed this area off?

Now the Amadeus FLIFO has been changed from "Diverted due to Customs" to "Diverted due to Weather".

So which is it? Customs or Weather? Why would they divert into the middle of all that bad weather at MSP?

Waiting for someone with the inside tract to report what really happened to UA 934/10May.

Well, it's back in the air again. Left rather soon after it came in. But as to what the reasons are - I don't know. United claims that weather was the reason, but who is going to believe that?
Another question: The aircraft was here for only approx. 20 minutes. Wouldn't they normally have to shut down all engines and refuel after an unscheduled stop? 20 minutes sounds really short for that. So maybe they knew about their stop before they left LAX and got enough fuel there?

When it says "due to cust" it means due to CUSTOMER. So there was probably someone very ill on the flight.

A good new place to go at MSP for spotting is down the road from the FedEx facility. There is a circle at the end of the road that you can sit and get a very good view of 30L/30R inbound aircraft and the airport in general.

Was this the only plane to divert because of the weather?

I doubt it was to do with the weather, I believe the original story about customs.

If it was a medical, it would have stopped in Winnipeg. But because it turned back into the states...it probably is a customs issue.

Contact Winnipeg center now on 134.4, good day.

It was the only plane I saw diverted last night to MSP. It was very rainy here, but no t-storms etc. in the area. Unruly passenger maybe, a bit of air rage, would have thought that might make the news.
