Hi all -

I have to say I am in love with the Airbus A340-600. This one one amazing looking aircraft. I can't wait until I fly on it on CX from LAX to HKG. Just looking at the pictures it's an amazing and beautiful looking machine. I'll always love the Boeing 777 but when it comes to four engines for long haul the A340-600 is the best looking and Im sure when I fly on it I love it even more. I just wish SQ or OZ may one day get them but I don't see that happening. Anybody agree with me with this?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

 Wow!

I agree, but the A346 is awful long (just as the B773).

Just looking at the pictures, I prefer the A345: same engines and a shorter fuselage. Doesn't make the A345 a hot rod, but anway ...  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

The A346 looks stunning, and I believe the CX livery looks best on the aircraft.  Smile

Absolutely right, Hkg82!
I also used to think the 345 was better looking until I saw this:

I might add that the CX livery is the best looking in these very long planes
(346, 773). In other liveries (particularly those without cheatline) they
seem disporpotionate machines.

Wait till you see it for the first time live and in colour. Saw it recently in FRA, the South African one...It's huge!!! And it doesn't look disproportionate at all, certainly not "too long"...Absolutely great it was!!

I know it's only VfB but I like it!

The size of those engines definitely balances it out with regards to the length of the aircraft. I've only see an A346 once in person, when spotting, and yeah, it's an absolute beauty.

I can only imagine what the A380 will look like upfront, upclose.  Smile

Sorry..it's a bit bizarre looking--even worse in person.
The -500 has the mean, aggressive look....
Not to say it's not an interesting aircraft...but it is out of proportion....

The fuselage is simply too long to call it 'beautiful', the tail looks grossly disproportioned to the body length.

Like the chunky engines though.

I've always been one to side with the shorter, "chunkier" a/c. I still like the A345's looks better, although I'd love a flight in either one.

I think CX's A346's "TailCAM" is an excellent entertainment device. I read a thread on this camera a few months ago. . .I think the A.netter said he ended up watching everything through the tailcam instead of his own window. . .it must be awesome.

Call me too PC, but I think most aircraft have their own sort of... characteristic that makes them interesting. The 757-200 is so athletic; it's look has been likened (on this board) to certain female qualities.... hehe.

The A340-600 is so long. That is its unique quality. NOT that there aren't other long planes. Just that the 346 seems to draw attention to it's own length.

The 345, I think, doesn't look nearly as magnificent. Not at all.

That said, I generally don't care for the 340s. I prefer 330s. I haven't been fortunate enough to sample a real Boeing widebody yet (ie, 747/777 and NOT 767 because I don't consider the 767 a real widebody ac).

You know, someday, they'll make a vibrator modelled around the A346. It's just that long...

Not to get "too" into the gutter here, but I think most "people" *(PC) would rather have the A380 vibrator. . . .uh, nevermind.

Okay, back to airliners. . .

To what do you judge as being long? The 340 series is an amazing series of aircraft, and not to mention being so passenger friendly too! e.g. 2-4-2 seating, incredibly quiet cabin etc.

I am seriously disappointed that SIA decided to retire their 343 fleet, now it'll be so boring with only 747 and 777. But more European airlines e.g. Air France, Swiss, SAS are/will be flying the 343 into SIN. Just waiting to fly on CX's 346 one fine day!

A340s are the best! Had my best flights on A340-300s..
I really hope to fly on the -500 or -600 series anytime soon...

Now, back to the topic: we haven't been blessed with an appearance by a 346 yet.....come to think of it, we've only seen a couple 340's in these parts, and it's been awhile. I'm going to withhold my affections for the time being.

I flew from CPT to JNB on one of SA`s 346, it was a very pleasant flight because of the low noise level inside the cabin. I also liked the entertainment features very much, for example the camera on top of the tail, you have a perfect view outside even when you have no window seat. When I am gong to fly to South Africa again, for sure I will take SA`s flight from FRA with the 346.

I like it! I haven't had the chance to fly on an A340 yet- only Airbus i've been on is an A320 but i hope to one day fairly soon. I remember when SQ used to fly the A340-300 here into ADL, it's a shame it's now been replaced with the 777. Hopefully SQ will get the -600 too.

I think SIA has A345s on order

No they dont... though they'll probably end up taking the ones which were originally to go to AC.
