The BBC is reporting that all UK flights to and from Kenya are to be suspended from 2200 BST tonight because the threat level to UK planes has "increased to imminent."

Just reading it on SkyNews. I can't believe it.
Kenya Airlines has said it will defy the warning and scheduled flights would go ahead.

I can't believe it either. What an impact it would've (and could still) have on Kenya Airlines.

It looks like BA have cancelled tonights flight. Kenya Airways will probably still operate as they are the home carrier.

It seems the risk is specifically with British aircraft. This is the world we live in today. How nice.

Other than the people who work in intelligence, none of us know the threats we are facing. Better to be safe than sorry.

Perhaps the therat is similar to what happened with the Arkia 757 some time ago? Can't remember if it was in Kenya, but I'm sure that some missiles were shot at that aircraft... perhaps this is the same?

Out of the UK carriers, is it just British Airways and Monarch that fly to Kenya (Nairobi and Mombasa respectively)?

The Arkia 757 incident (two man-portable surface to air missiles launched at the aircraft as it was climbing out after takeoff) took place in Mombasa, which is also in Kenya.

The Kenyan authorities have announced that an Al-Qaeda suspect believed to be connected to the suicide bombing at the Paradise Hotel in Kenya about six months ago may have re-entered the country, hence the security warning. It is interesting, though, that the other two targets were thought to be primarily directed at Israelis (Arkia is an Israeli airline, the Paradise hotel was part-owned by an Israeli company and full of Israeli tourists) and now the threat has spread to British targets.

It is a scary world indeed.

Just seen the latest BBC News at 10, and they said "Kenya Airlines will be allowed to operate their schedules, they are not a target...."

Whether they are a target or not, they are not bound to the restrictions imposed by the (UK) Department of Transport who (through the CAA) have imposed this ruling on British carriers only.

The Kenyans have accused the UK of "over-reaction"... though in my opinion the "better safe than sorry" principle has been correctly applied.

Good to see. Safety First. These guys who are causing the threat have no morals. Murdering is their life. And why should inocent British people die in the name of Islam?

The terrorist threats is not only for Kenya but also for 5 othets East Africans countries.

Apart from BA & KQ, KLM & SN Brussels Airlines and also Swiss operate flights into NBO from Europe.

But the threat is issued to British & US interests in the region.
