EAL European 742 At IND

Passing through IND yesterday, I was surprised to see a European Airlines 747-200 on the tarmac. Its livery was black and blue, kind of airbrushed into a fade. ANy thoughts on why this plane would be there? It was close to the Fedex facility, so I was thinking it might be cargo related.

Indy 500 is next weekend, my guess is that it was bringing in cars and crew.

They have contracts for F1 so Indy would be my guess.

F1 isn't until September. Penske used to have his engineering staff in the U.K. and Barry Green has an operation over there, I believe.

The plane came in last week to bring the CART team members and officials back from Europe. Apparently, the plane has a fuel leak in the #4 engine that couldn't be found. Was moved over to the FedEx ramp on Saturday probably for mx work from FedEx. I guess this aircraft was suppossed to be taken to Nassau several days ago.

This isn't the first time I've seen an EAL plane here. They were here last year for both the 500 and the F1 race. In fact, at one point there were two of them in different colours parked over by international arrivals. At one point last week we had that EAL plane, 2 C-5 Galaxy's, Air Force One, and a few L1011's. Not very often to you get that strange mix here. Indy does get a lot of strange planes though. I think we've talked about this in a different thread. Anybody have any idea what the Tradewind's cargo plane thats always over near where the EAL plane is sitting is?

Thanks guys for the replies. I have always wondered about that Tradewinds plane, too. I saw an Excel air plane in that same spot once.
