Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew what the "advanced" meant on Boeing's 737-275?

Also does anyone know the history of ex-CP/AC C-GCPW? I know where it is now, but I was wondering if anyone knew much about its history. It was previously registered as N126AW. Was it delivered first to America West? I found a delivery date of January 1975. Is that when it came off the factory floor, or is that when Pacific Western got it from America West?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I was just recently involved in a discussion of this, so you might do a search for the terms "advanced" and "basic".

Briefly, Boeing made various performance, operational, and aerodynamic improvements to the 737-200 "basic" model starting in the 1972-1973 timeframe, and all -200s built after that time were the "advanced" verions. The -100 was already out of production by this time.

The -200 basic had a 109,000 max takeoff weight, and a max 98,000 landing weight.

The -200 advanced had 115,500, 119,500, 124,500 lb. weights, and respective 103,000, 105,000, 107,000 lb. landing weights, all dependent on if JT8D -9, -15, or -17 engines were installed.

"Advanced" on the 737-2XX, also referred to as 737-200-15 or 200-17 was largely a result of improved engines and avionics, with a few other modifications. There is little difference between the "Advanced" and other except for the engines, a few avionics parts, and the fuel capacity (slightly larger in the "advanced").

Here's the recent thread I mentioned. It also mentions the "advanced" designation in context to the 727 as well as the 737, but each aircraft had improvements made. I linked some pictures that compare the 737s...

America West did not exist in 1975. The aircraft was built for Pacific Western (75 is the Boeing customer code for Pacific Western/Canadian Airlines International), and was delivered to them in 1975. Later, in the late 1980's. America West leased it for a while, and that is when it was registered N126AW.
