In recent months Boeing 727 lovers have been going through some rough times with many airlines (especially US ones) retiring the aircraft, sad times indeed. On a brighter note though I found out and saw a rather low quality picture of an UPS B721QF painted into the new colors, quite the sight and hopefully somebody here can capture this lovely bird. I am in the process to find out the reg # on this plane.

I think UPS is planning on keeping their 727s for a while. Anyone know about FedEx?

FedEx is in the process of scrapping/donating its 721 fleet, no news yet on the 722 and 722RE fleets. We still get 3 UPS 721s in here every night at LAN.

I've heard from a UPS Air Manager that all the B72's will get the new colours.

I'm trying to picture how the new scheme will look on that airframe...

No doubt it will be eye-catching.

I like the scheme on the B76 and B75.

How exactly does one go about letting FedEx know they'd be a willing recipient of their generous B-727 donation?  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

EA CO AS: That is a wonderful question that I wish I knew the answer to. Last year they donated half a dozen to various schools for mechanic training purposes, and I believe this year they are averaging one a month for the same purpose. I suppose if you are a 501c3 and can provide them with the writeoff, then you're golden!

P.S. can anyone answer me why UPS flies 3 721s and a 752 into LAN every night, instead of fewer larger (and smaller crewed) planes?

I'll take one of those fedEx 727-100's  Smile It would look pretty cool sitting in my backyard. I would turn it into a living room.

Official word from the most recent guys going through recurrent is the company is saying at least 30 727's through this decade. I believe we have 34 right now. Hope it's true...

I know it's a little off topic but does anyone in the US use the BA146 as a freighter? In Australia it plays a major role in freight ops, how come FedEx or UPS don't use it as a short haul freighter? I understand it carries a respectful load.
