It looks like J8 (Berjaya Air) introduced some new services beside it's current operation to TOD and PKG and from TOD to XSP with their DH7s.

On day 1 and 5 there is a service from SZB via MKZ (Melacca) to PDG in Indonesia and return.

On day 4 and 7 there is a flight from SZB to USM and going back to SZB again.

I really wonder if they have other plans to extend it's services and I also wonder how Berjaya is doing out of the financial aspect. I wonder how they can make money if you take a loot at their airfares.

I would think that their fares are pretty high!

Nonetheless, with the demise of Pelangi Air, PEN has not seen any direct flights to those resort island which had decent loads and the "replacement" airline called Aero Malaysiana has seen no developments lately.

Good to see Berjaya Air flying higher. They, I think, are fairly profitable and are part of the Berjaya Group Berhad which is also a very strong conglomorate type company.

Berjaya Air was setup to bring revenue in to the Berjaya Group hotels. They fly tourist in from Singapore etc. Berjaya Air may not be profitable but it sure brings in tremendous revenue to their hotel business and the Berjaya Group in overall.

Triple Seven
As far as I know there are NO Berjaya Hotels in USM, PKG, MKZ and PDG.

There is only one in TOD. Both times I flew from SZB to PKG the plane was nearly empty or had a load factor of NOT more than around 10%.

Where did Pelangi fly to from PEN? I know they flew from SZB to TOD, PKG, KTE. I also know that they had operations out of KUA.

I think the launch of flights to USM, and PDG is meant to entice tourist visiting those places to extend their visits to Malaysia and its islands. If you notice Berjaya Group have embedded themselves in the island-tourist industry. They are probably strengthening their position in these areas.

BTW I did some research. Here are a few companies they own:

Mauritius: Berjaya Hotels and Resorts,
Berjaya Le Morne Beach Resort and Casino

Cayman Island: Berjaya Vacation Club Ltd.

Singapore: Berjaya Vacation Club Pte. Ltd.
Berjaya Duxton Hotel

Seychelles: Berjaya Mahe Beach Resort Ltd.
Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort
Anse Volbert Hotel Ltd.

United Kingdom: Berjaya Vacation Club Ltd.
