AA/UA Mainline @ MKE

How come AA nor UA have mainline service into MKE? Are the loads really that bad on the current connection flights? I would doubt it.

They're the only ones who have exclusive connection flights (besides CO who would be invading NW turf) into MKE. Why?

That doesn't stop them from flying mainline to DEN or DFW. They're both also served with regional jets.

It doesn't necessarly mean the loads are "bad", rather, regional service may be all that MKE can support right now for those airlines.

I'm not surprised at all by what AWA22 said about USAirways switching to all-regional service. I just flew into Milwaukee a couple weeks ago on USAirways, and on the leg from PIT-MKE, I flew on a half-full 737-300. I actually ended up getting half a row of three seats to myself (which I can't complain about), but I doubt that the airline was making much money (if any) off of that particular flight.

it's part loads, part frequency. Right now MKE (atleast from AA's stand point) isn't producing enough of a load factor to require a mainline A/C. To DFW the loads are actually pretty dismal from what I've heard and seen, it's already been downgraded from a CRJ 700 to a EMB 145. At the rate it's going, the brain trust in Dallas might just be thinking of doing to the MKE-DFW flights what they did to the MSN-DFW flight, pull the plug. I mean almost all the places served out of DFW are served out of ORD and it's a 2 hour shorter flight. Plus with the all out brawl heating up with Midwest, Northwest, and Airtran over the hearts and mind of Milwakee's flying public I really doubt tht UA or AA want to get into that mess.

I doubt AE will pull MKE-DFW.

They even brag about that specific route somewhere on amr.com (about how far the ERJs can go).

I guess I'm just fishing the bleak waters on that one though, hoping that AE will keep the route.

I said they might. My honest opinion is that it will stay for if no other fact to provide a second option for connecting pax (not counting STL). But the loads are pretty bad on that route. I took an improv survey of my fellow FA's and 30 is a heavy load on that flight. But on the bright side that's atleast 15 better than the average break even number for the 145. The three I did last month the loads were 22, 25, 11, all on the 145. I think it more likely is going to be downgraded again to a 140 that a total pull out on the route. BUT and it's a big but you never know what Dallas is going to do half the time.

As for them bragging about the ERJ's being able to fly that long of a flight. True they can and we've done longer (i.e. LGA-XNA) but I can say from 3 year working on that bird anything over 2 hours is a chore.

Sorry to hear that AE pulled the -700 off that route. I flew that many times last summer between DFW-MKE-DFW and every time it was almost full. That is a pretty long time to be on a 145.

There is no way we will see UA or AA mainline service in MKE anywhere in the near future. Because it is so close to ORD, they would rather send small RJs on a higher frequency rather than bigger planes only a few flights a day. Plus as stated earlier, I don't think they want to get into the MKE market battle right now.

I was also surprised to see that US Airways still had 737s coming to MKE. I was expecting those to go along time ago. The only true major airline that can afford mainline service in MKE is NW.

You could say ATA if you included charters.

Otherwise, yes.

The other majors are just gonna sit back and watch NW take over MKE.
