Yeah, you're right. I forgot about the climate changes. I fully understand the reasoning behind the Argentinians and Chileans desire to visit Cancun's carribbean climate, white sand beaches, and pristine turquoise waters. They don't have that in their countries, but Brazilians, Venezuelans, and Puerto Ricans do, and they still find reasons to go. Don't know - just my point of view.

If Varig is in such precarious financial situation why are they adding leisure routes (that apparently hasn't worked in the past)- why dont they just fly to MEX and book their pax on Mexicana's flights to CUN .
to answer your question of why Puerto Ricans go to Cancun- very simple alot of us like to escape to other countries and enjoy beautiful beaches and go to hotels that have reasonable prices and get treated nicely. Sadly in Puerto Rico Hotels are extremely overpriced - beaches leave alot to be desired and if you are not caucasian you get treated very poorly. Thats why there is such a high number of Puerto Ricans that travel to the Dominican Republic, St. Marteen, Aruba , The USVI and recently graduated high school students Cancun . I must say if we had a better tourism industry we Puerto Ricans might stay in our own country and enjoy the beauties this island has to offer - but with avergae hotel prices for an night at $200.00 who can blame us. If we get our act together we could really be in the ballpark with the other caribbean destinations . Sorry for the long explanation
