A Saudi Airlines plane made an emergency landing at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) at around 10:30 a.m. Friday with seven of its 16 tires blowing out as a result.

NAIA Security and Emergency Services said the plane was able to dock at the airport's Gate 15.

No casualty was reported and officials have started to look into the cause of the incident.

NINA is in Manila, Philippines. It is the Main intl airport in Manila. When I was there Saudi used 747-300's, so that would mean 7 of 18 tires, and not 16.

Manila, June 6 - Seven tyres of a Saudia airlines plane burst upon landing at the Philippine capital's international airport on Friday, but all 442 people on board were unhurt, officials said.

The incident occurred as the Boeing 747 jet touched down at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Celestino Conel, an operations personnel at the NAIA, said the plane was carrying 421 passengers and 21 crew members.

"As soon as the plane touched down, a series of explosions was heard due to the tyres blowing up," he said.

"Debris was scattered all over the runway. But no one was hurt."

He noted that it was the first time that seven of 18 tyres blew up in one incident.

The plane, which came from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was safely towed to a gate at the arrival area to allow passengers and crew members to disembark.

Conel said four incoming flights were delayed due to the incident, with one of them being diverted to the in ternational airport in the central city of Cebu.

It sounds like a landing turned emergency, then an emergency landing..

cockpit? it's that little room in the front of the plane where the pilots seat.. but that's not important now

If it was an emergency, followed by an emergency landing, did they go around first?

What was the problem in the first place and why would it make them land so heavy they burst the tyres??.

Very Heavy breaking could cause this but it seems it happened on impact.

It was a routine landing, but upon touchdown, 7 tires burst.

So that Jumbo came all the way from Jeddah with the pilots expecting a routine landing and upon touchdown 7 tires burst? Did they land hard or?

Yeah.

It was a -400 series jet. Thought that the -300 operated the MNL route though.
