Just read in the Bismarck newspaper that Mesaba is adding service to JMS and DVL in North Dakota. Both airports are currently served by Lakes Air using B1900Ds from MSP-JMS-DVL. I am assuming Mesaba is replacing Great Lakes for the 1.2 million dollar a year EAS route (yes Mesaba will be paid by the EAS program to fly this).

Perhaps this means Great Lakes is closing their MSP "hub"? My guess is the reason this is occuring is because Great Lakes notified the feds they're pulling out- then a new carrier had to be found (Mesaba). I doubt they're leave the MSP hub open just to fly from MSP to Brookings and Huron, SD.

I'll look for a link- trying to find out when this service begins.

Good luck to all our friends at Great Lakes in these shitty times.
Serge

Where are JMS to DVL and Great Lakes operated as an nwa carrier?
JMS-DVL, I'm not sure if you can fill a plane on that point-to-point market.

When Mesaba flies from MSP-GFK-TVF, GFK to TVF may have only 2 or 3 people (if any people at all) Mesaba doesn't care though...they get paid either way. I am sure it is the same type of thing for when they fly JMS-DVL

Nope, to my knowledge Great Lakes was fully independant of any agreements or codeshares from MSP-JMS-DVL. That means no United or Frontier codes- or NWA either I guess....

Serge, I think you're right. Mesaba is replacing Great Lakes Aviation and I bet Great Lakes Av. will be closing it's MSP hub (sorry to see it leave). MSP has seen a steady decline in GL traffic and routes since the early 1990s (probably when they were at their highest at MSP).

Here's their current route map (DEN still going strong):

Yep- not the best time for Lakes :-( Some of their EMB-120 pilots got the downgrade to B1900D lately as well. With the MSP cut(s) I'm sure there will be layoffs or other job cuts.

Supposedly there are only 3 DEN based Brasilias now too- 297UX, 299UX, and 96ZK... 71GL and 293UX have timed out engines and 108UX is flying casino charters in the gulf region- mostly between Biloxi, Mississippi and Oscala (sp?), Florida.

I might have to fly this route just for kicks (DVL-JMS-MSP) before its replaced with Mesaba  Smile/happy/getting dizzy Less then $200 r/t including taxes- would be worth it though.

regards,
Serge

Today the DEN-DIK-ISN flight tookoff from DEN and had to divert to CYS due to a mechanical. It was operated by one of the EMB-120ERs.. All the pax were thrown on N251GL- "Grand Teton" and flown from CYS-DIK-ISN--- I was quite happy to get pics of this aircraft since its one of their "artsy" tails.  Smile/happy/getting dizzy

Bad news for the Brasilias though..

I remember, my teacher flew on the Jamestown route years ago, but she told me it was American Eagle  Yeah sure

I see those little things all the time, I wonder if anyone actually flies that route??!

I know someone over there who flies it  Smile/happy/getting dizzy So yes, people do indeed fly the route. If they didn't Lakes would buy a few C152s and just send the pilots along to please the government under the EAS agreement  Big grin

When you think about it- I wonder if they'll drop Phoenix as well? You would think it would be easy as cheese to throw a America West Express Dash 8 on the PHX-PGA route--- then the CNY (Moab) -DEN route would still fulfill the requirements for EAS right (don't need TWO hub airports).
