Three More Airlines Quit Pakistan

Syrian Arab Airlines(727-200), Oman Air(737-700) and Iran Air(A310-300) have all exited from Karachi their sole destination in Pakistan, RB had just downgraded the route from a 747SP a few months ago they operated once a week from Damascus via Dammam in Saudi Arabia, WY were nonstop from Muscat fourtimes a week, they had relauched operations to Karachi last year having earlier suspended the route in 2000 IR were operating once a week nonstop from Tehran.

What are the reasons? Surely not merely because of PIA in terms of competition and lower prices or higher quality service, or because of a lack of demand?

Pak's economy is in shambles and I don't think it makes sense for many of these airlines to fly there.

With a growth rate of over 3.6% and Foreign exchange reserves of over $10 Billion, the Pakistan economy is doing better than it has done in a decade. The only problem Pakistan faces is the war on terrorism being fought with in the country, this has scared off many pottential investors.

Syrian Airlines resumed service to Karachi last week, it was suspended due to the war in Iraq, however I did see their 727 at KHI in March, according to staff of Iran Air the airline has also suspended operations and not terminated KHI, so they'll be returning as well, Oman Air have quit for sure.
