I just had to go pick someone up at PHL this evening when I spotted a UA heavy from I-95. On the way home I swung by Island avenue and found a UA 767 parked at the old blue overseas building (sorry, didn't catch the reg.). Farther down the road, I found a 777 parked next to the fence at Island and Enterprise (ironicly N777UA).

I found the 777 listed in Flytecomm as UA 8159 arriving from DEN this afternoon. There was no trace of the 767, though. Anyone know why we were lucky enough to see these guys here in PHL?

I knew I should have brought my camera along too!

JFK also got an extra UA 777 tonight. Flight 925 LHR-IAD, was diverted here due to the storms in IAD.

This 777 definately wasn't a diversion. The 8159 flight number tells me this was some sort of charter or other special movement.

And speaking of storms, we just got nailed pretty good here in PHL ourselve4s.

I have no idea Joe...is there something going on involving moving large PHL delegation somewheres else? I guess maybe flytecomm will give the answer when it departs perhaps???

I was not at work today I wish I was now. Would have loved to have seen a 777 in PHL. N777UA is a particular favorite of mine haveing flown on it twice, and its distiction as the first commerically operated 777.

Wagz is right though any UA flight number in the 8000 series is a charter. Does anyone know of any large groups that might be coming to Philadelphia?

The 767 could verywell be a divertion due to the storms or a 767 is sometimes used as a replacement for the 757. PHL gets a 757 from DEN every evening.

Alright, here's an update. The 767 I thought I saw apparently was actually another 777 (damn, my new new glasses must be screwing with my eyes!). One of them seems to have been UAL 382 now that I've done some more seaching. It came in from ORD around 5:15 and has now left for IAD. That one is definately a weather diversion.

UAL 8159 also appears to be a diversion now, too. The odd part is that it left for IAD as UAL 8169. I can't imagine why they would have changed the flight number before leaving, or why its carrying an 8000 series number to begin with. In any event, UAL 8159 is already scheduled for tomorrow DEN to IAD.

UAL - Do you know if they've switched the schedules now? I've got the timetable program from ua.com, but it seems that DEN flight with the 757 has changed to a differant flight number as of today, and is now run with an A320. The only other 757 I've found flotaing around in there is from LAX now I beleive. Now, if the weather would cooperate, I could get down there on the weekend and actually see one of them.

being that i am in phl now and leaving tues on america west phl-phx-las-lax-phx at 1pm, i went out to the old intl terminal, and saw the a/c, and spoke to ground crew. he said they use the old blue intl terminal at night for ron a/c as parking, but if the a/c are at the old gates, they are all military charters. he said lately there have been numerous a/c at the old terminal, an ata L1011, a CO 777, and numerous DL 777 and NW 747-200 a/c.

Yeah i saw this plane on flytecomm when we had those bad storms as a diversion from iad. I have seen numerous ATA L1011 at the airport at one time but it must have been 4 or 5 months ago. A NWA 742 flew into the airport i think sometime last week. Delta is starting to rotate 767's into PHL now, with an occasional 762 on weekends and then starting in Nov. a daily 763. However, i haven't noted of any CO 777's and DL 777's.

USAirways85,

Wow, Delta 767s here? I can't wait! I was starting to get a little bored with the same old traffic around here anymore. LH started the 767 service here yesterday (although I'm not sure if I should be happy or sad about that), UA 757s, and now Delta 767s. Now if the weather would cooperate on the weekend for once I could get down there and get some shots of all these planes.

Yeah...i was surprised to see a Delta 762 fly over my head this weekend, unfortunately i think it only is scheduled sporatically. However, come early Decemeber there will be a Delta 763 that arrives 10pm and departs 9am. Things could change between now and then but hopefully it will stay like that.

The LH 767 is alright but i am hoping by the winter when US starts to integrate into Star that we see some 343's again...haven't seen them in a while.

I am glad UA is starting to send some 757's here, however as i check flytecomm everyday i still only see maybe 1 or 2 a day from DEN and SFO.

In addition to charters, the 81XX series flights are also regular flights (such as 682 or something) being used by two different aircraft (because of the span of time zones UA operates in).

For example, last year some of UA's SFO-ORD flights, continuations of transpacific flights, took off and kept 81XX flight numbers/call signs because another aircraft with the same flight number was still in the air across the pacific.

Does that make sense?
