I am flying JFK-HEL on July 1st on a Finnair MD 11. The cabin plan shows a 3 - 4 - 3 across in coach. How cramped is that? How many airlines have increased their rows on the MD11 by one seat. The configuration I have always seen is 2 - 5 - 2 or 3 - 4 - 2 not TEN seats across. Does anyone know when Finnair increased the rows by one seat?

It is true that most MD-11's have a 2-5-2 seating config in economy class like its older sibling, the DC-10, but each airline does what it wants, it is up to each airline to specify either a 2-5-2 config or a 3-4-3 config. Finnair isn't the only one, CityBird used to have a 3-4-3 config on their MD-11's.
