Spotting At DFW

I've always done my amateurish spotting at DFW on days when the wind was from the north. I have a couple of favorite spots for those occasions. Trouble is, getting a north wind at DFW in the summer happens about as often as the Texas Rangers win the pennant.

Are there good sites on the north side of DFW when the prevailing wind is southerly?

There used to be a small little service road that was just west of the water tanks where we used to watch...pretty much directly off 17C. However in the post 9/11 world, you'd most likely get arrested driving down there. Back then, it wasn't posted as no trespassing, and I don't know if it's marked that way since.

I won't give my spots away, but I will give you this hint. Drive around the WHOLE airport. You will eventually find your own spots.

To tell you the truth, for the past week and a half the wind has been out of the north. And I have to sit in the parking lot of my office watching a/c land from the south, eating lunch and thinking of the great things I'm missing. :-(
