I know this topic has come up before, but I've found some that haven't been mentioned yet. Can anybody top these? Paved, open, civilian use only.

I had to do this for a college class once. I think the longest runway is IAH maybe. It's been a few months, I can't remember.

But I know it's not LAX, JFK, ORD, or DTW which was very surprising.

Where'd you come up with that from... IAH's longest runway is barely more than 12,000ft. JFK, MIA, etc all already have that beat.

DEN will soon offer the USA's longest civil runway.

I believe JFK's is 14,582 feet and was the longest civil runway in the US until the new Denver one.

Go to www.airnav.com to check actual data, but I'm pretty sure it's IAH.

But don't take my word for it, I ended up flunking that class.

I thought it was some place no one would expect like SDF or OMH or something. Oddly, LMT (Klamath Falls) has a runway that is 10,300. They are served only 3x a day by QX. The longest at MFR (65 miles away) is about 9000 and they are served by UA, UAX and QX.

Thought you guys might find this interesting.

Number of civilian airports (that have some type of fuel available) in the US with longest runway in the range of:

10,000-10,999ft: 55 (21 being exactly 10,000ft)
11,000-11,999ft: 32
12,000-12,999ft: 19
13,000-13,999ft: 13
14,000ft+: 2 (JFK and LAS)

I think it's been established that IAH does not have one of the longest rwys (although 12,000' is pretty good).

Incidentally, on History channel last night on Modern Marvels they did a special on runways. I saw only a part of it though.

Harare Int´l Airport has a 4725m (15502 ft) long runway.

On a side note, Gavião Peixoto is not "open" as the airport is private property owned by Embraer..

The new airport at Querétaro Mexico, which should open in September of this year, is supposed to have a main runway of around 4,500 meters (around 15,000 feet). I suppose it will be Mexico's longest civilian use runway when it opens. The longest runway at MEX (5R/23L) is around 12,950 feet (some 3,900 meters).

You would think thst airports that are either ex-Air Force Bases or share runways with the USAF would have some really long runways, but most seem to be between 10,000'-12,000'.
