I read in another forum that Malaysia Airlines will suspend its flights out of Vienna come July 29, 2003. The Kuala Lumpur-Rome-Vienna service will now be a Kuala Lumpur-Rome turnaround service. This is the third time (am I right?) that Malaysia Airlines have suspended their services into Vienna. Can anybody provide further information with regards to this suspension? Also, from what I heard, they might re-route Rome via Frankfurt.

I've heard that they are planning to fly VIE-KUL nonstop, thus dropping the FCO stop.
Yes, they did suspend the flights a couple of times before. They used to operate a 744 to VIE, changed to 777, then dropped it (Asian financial crisis in the late 90s?), then started again operating VIE-ZAG-KUL, then changed the stop from ZAG to FCO...

Yep... I remember Malaysia 777 in ZAG... that was one of the shortest 777 flights, VIE-ZAG...
Zagreb Airport management is trying to get back (or to introduce) some direct flights from ZAG to Asia, and it doesn't look like Malaysia will be the serious candidate... if there is any.

Ryanair!!!: I think Frankfurt is not generating as much load as they want and probably want to combine it with Rome?

Re: KUL-FRA-FCO. Further to what OdiE just said, my guess is that FRA has a lot more higher-yielding passengers than FCO, and MH would lose these paxs if they to provide one-stop servce to FRA. FYI SQ did SIN-ZRH-FCO vv for a couple of years (1995 to 1997 I think) and CX also did HKG-ZRH-FCO.

People were opting to fly with OS between VIE and KUL instead of on MH. The stupid thing is that MH times their flights to coincide exactly as with the OS flights! OS flies daily and has a better Business Class product than MH. So MH decides to fly a route that it can sustain alone. And FCO seems to be the place that it can do so.
