( BW)(FL-AIRTRAN-AIRWAYS)(AAI) AirTran Airways Sets Boarding Record: Airline Boards One Millionth Passenger in Month

Business Editors/Travel Writers

ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 30, 2003--AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., (NYSE:AAI) today reported that the airline, for the first time in its nine-year history, boarded its millionth passenger in a month this morning at its hub in Atlanta.
At a ceremony this morning, Tad Hutcheson, AirTran Airways' director of marketing, recognized passenger Mike Burdine as the one-millionth passenger to board an AirTran Airways jet in the month of June. Burdine, the vice president of engineering for National Linen Service, a division of National Services Industries, Inc., received a 1:100 scale model Boeing 717 aircraft as he boarded AirTran Airways flight 739 bound for Orlando, Fla., at 8:15 a.m.
"The Crew Members of AirTran Airways are proud to have reached such an important milestone in only our ninth year," said Kevin Healy, AirTran Airways vice president of planning and sales. "After adding flights to three new markets in the past six weeks, we will continue to expand our service to meet the needs of our customers and reach new milestones."
AirTran Airways is one of America's largest low-fare airlines - employing more than 5,000 professional Crew Members and serving 492 flights a day to 43 destinations. The airline's hub is at Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, the world's busiest airport (by passenger volume), where it is the second largest carrier operating 189 flights a day. The airline never requires a roundtrip purchase or Saturday night stay, and offers an affordable Business Class, assigned seating, easy online booking and check-in, the A-Plus Rewards frequent flier program, and the A2B corporate travel program. AirTran Airways also is a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc., (NYSE:AAI), and the world's largest operator of the Boeing 717, the most modern, environmentally friendly aircraft in its class. For more information and reservations, visit http://www.airtran.com (America Online Keyword: AirTran), call AirTran Airways at 800-AIRTRAN (800-247-8726) or 770-994-8258 (in Atlanta) or your travel agent.

Yep, I just got this as an email. Well, At least it wasn't a free ticket. Otherwise, I'd be jealous. I already have a 1:100 Scale Model.

If I recall correctly, the 1 millionth passenger on the 'orginal' AirTran got free tickets or something (this was back in spring of 1996?). Jacob, help me out haha.
