While I'm not really any more informed than you are, I would imagine that there are, or at least, were, some airlines interested in flying to PHL, and that was justification for US Airways and PHL to build A-West. I don't think they would have spent half a billion dollars on it just hoping someone would like to use it someday...they must have had a good reason. Hopefully once the economy begins to improve more, there will be enough demand for new routes and airlines into PHL.

I wouldn't look for many Star carriers to suddenly sworm to PHL just because US is part of Star now. You may eventually see LH add a few flights or upgrade aircraft as well as move into the new A-west. Singapore is a long shot and BMI has been unstable with its IAD and ORD flights so i doubt they will come either. In the long run new carriers will come and US will add more intl flights/destinations....just don't look for any immediate additions.
PHL's new A-west terminal was built soley for US...they just didn't build it in a "build it they will come" fashion. Originally US was supposed to use 11 out of the 13 new gates and currently they are using all 13. Chances are LH will move to A-west but British Airways may stay at A-east and utilize those intl gates.

I think it will take time but Star will come into PHL. PHL is a stronger hub for US that IAD is for UAL. I think that LH and BMI possibly others will begin to come into PHL for that reason.
Going out on a limb but it would not surprise me at all if UA transfered its unused LHR slots from BOS to PHL. This won't happen soon but BA is currently the ONLY airline serving LHR from PHL nonstop. AA won't compete with thier partner and as far as I know VG has no interest in PHL. That leaves UA. With US as a partner in PHL UA could get alot of its own O&D traffic as US would be able to cose share and sell LHR and LGW.
These will probably at least a year maybe two away I wouldn't expect any major expansion unitl the travel industry really beings to recover.

Actually it is more than just a slots issue because of the "designated gateway" provisions of Bermuda II. PHL is not a designated gateway for UA ops and hence UA would have to go through the entire route application/award procedure rather than simply switch slots.
