American Airlines will increase service to Rio de Janeiro effective 16 December 2002 by adding five weekly services between Miami and the Brazilian city. The additional frequencies will operate as AA919 south-bound daily except SuMo, and as AA980 southbound daily except MoTu. American Airlines' non-stop Miami to Rio de Janeiro service is the only non-stop service between the United States and the Brazilian city. As the largest US carrier in Brazil, American Airlines offers 40 weekly services between the US and Brazil, including daily service from JFK and Dallas to Sao Paulo, twice daily from Miami to Sao Paulo, and 12x a week from Miami to Rio de Janeiro. In addition, they offer daily service between Sao Paulo and Asuncion, Belo Horizonte*, and Rio de Janeiro*.

I wish they'd start up JFK-GIG again, I'd like to work those flights.

Seriously though Im suprised by how much service has been cut to GIG in the last 2-3 years.

UAL and AA used to fly nonstop from JFK to GIG, CO flew nonstop DC-10s from EWR to GIG.

They all cut those flights, Im not sure CO even serves GIG. If they do it's from IAH with a stop in GRU.

CO still serves GIG, so does UA, via GRU. IIRC, UA never had JFK-GIG, they did have MIA-GIG up until a few months ago. The new TAM/Varig will most likely offer daily MIA-GIG service.

Continental did have a nonstop flight to GIG from EWR. It was cut immediately after 09/11. Today, CO flies to GIG via GRU from IAH and EWR.
