I have done a search on this topic and still am clueless. Can anyone tell me if construction has started on the new T5 @ LHR? If so,is there a realistic date when they expect to have it finished? If it has not started is there a realistic date when the construction will start? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Construction started months ago, the first foundations have been laid. Check the LHR photos on the database.
T5 won't be fully operational until at least 2007/08.

The building work had started before the go-ahead was officially given !!. The sewage works had already started to be demolished and a new taxiway had been built a few years ago, it is currently used as parking stands at the moment - known as the 160 stands. The tunnel between the central area and the T5 site is also nearing completion having been started about 2 years ago.
These pictures below show the construction work. If you compare the size of the T5 site in the left picture with the size of the existing central area you can see it's about the same size !!
Also just for your info, if you look at the left of the left hand picture, where runway 23 is and those taxiways - the plan is to extened the T1 Europier out to where runway 23 is located and to build to parallel taxiways between 27L/R that run straight between the 2 runways rather than all wonkey as they are at the moment - this will be done once the 3rd runway is given the go-ahead.

Does anyone know how many gates will be built?
And will the sole proprietor be British Airways – or will it invite its oneworld partners to join them there?
