Today LOT Polish Airlines received invitation from Iraqi majors to start flying on Warsaw-Baghdad route. And LOT said 'Yes'. Plans to have 2 fights a week on route with 1 stop in Beirut. LOT is another airline after Lufthansa, KLM and Virgin that will get new route in the schedule.

I hardly think this is going to happen in the forseeable future. If you don't believe me, get a telly.

Poland is involved with the coalition troops, so I guess it´s because of that.

I believe this is due to the Polish Peacekeeping Force deployed to Iraq. Plenty of business, especially in oil.

As far as I know Peacekeeping troops will fly on Ukrainian military aircraft ( AN-124?) rented by polish gov. specially for this purpose. On the other hand we are talking about 2300 troops, so I dont know if Ukrainians can handeled it, plus some jurnalists and gov. officials. Anyway its first time I hear about this. What is the source?

I only hope that "reconstruction" will proceed as quickly as possible. I am sure there are many family members not only here in the US but around the world who are just counting the days down until they can fly back to their home. I know for NW it will be a full flight everyday once we can safely operate into Baghdad. I think it will certainly be longer than just the end of the year before flights are allowed back in though....

Virgin landed in southern Iraq, not Baghdad.

Polish companies used to do a lot of construction work (roads, buildings, even airports) in Iraq in the 70s and 80s.

LOT used to fly to Baghdad, and Kuwait, and Dubai (not so long ago).

It is said the route would be via Beirut.

How much A is there is Airliners Net ? 0 or nothing ?
