Dow Jones Business News
SWISS PRESS: Lufthansa Bids For Swiss Airline
Sunday July 13, 8:15 am ET

ZURICH -(Dow Jones)- Swiss International Air Lines Ltd. , known by its brand name Swiss, has received a takeover offer from Germany's Lufthansa , Swiss weekly Sonntagszeitung reported Sunday.
"We are talking to various companies on possible cooperation," Swiss spokesman Jean-Claude Clauzel told The Asssociated Press, reiterating earlier statements. He declined to disclose details on these talks.

The newspaper said Lufthansa's offer was made on the condition that the Swiss airline implements the radical restructuring that the airline annouced in June.

The German airline's spokesman, Bernd Hoffmann, told the Associated Press that he knew nothing about the proposal.

The newspaper also said the Swiss government and creditor banks are urging Swiss to accept the offer, but a spokeswoman for the Swiss government declined to comment.

Alot of people think Swiss is Swissair rebranded, infact in one thread in non-aviation one foreign paper said "Swiss formerly known as Swissair", could'nt the company be called something else, they should've kept the Crossair name considering they retaine dtheir IATA code LX.

.....up there with the best!

Hi!

One thing is SWISS studying cooperation, another is SWISS beeing take over by LH, I don't believe on that!
It's like saying that TAP will be taken by Iberia, for nothing in this world!!!!
That is just business games, lobbies, finance speculation. Everybody in this world wants to see SWISS down! They said SWISS wouldn't receive the 343's that they would run out of money soon, but...but... they're flying!!!
Regards

Other articles in the Swiss Press stated that Swiss could be taken over by Emirates, Singapore Airlines or EasyJet(!).

Do you guys know who exactly owns shares of LOT Polish Airlines that previously belong to Swissair? Is it Swiss?

That is 30% stake in LOT.

Alone the fact that the Swiss spokesman's real name is Jean-Claude Donzel and not Jean-Claude Clauzel as stated by Dow Jones proves to me the "credibility" of this report...

...although I have to say that a financial take-over is maybe the best for everybody. It will badly hurt the swiss pride but if LX can be saved this way - so be it!
