Question About Airlines That Fly City Pairs...

I have a question about airlines that do not have "hubs" (such as Southwest) but rather fly city pairs. Where do their pilots and flight attendants live?

For instance, Southwest flies MHT to BWI daily. Do some of their pilots/FA's live in (or near) MHT and BWI or do they commute to work from other parts of the country?

Also, would a pilot/FA for Southwest (or whoever) bid on specific routes such as MHT to BWI?

I'm curious about this because if I ever wanted to work for Southwest (for example) where should I expect to live?

Thanks in advance to all who reply!

BWI is a "hub" with tons of flights in and out.

I understand that BWI is a major airport but it's not a hub per se for any airline that flies only city pairs.

Do you mean it's not a hub for city pairs like DL flying there from ATL? Those DL pilots could be based in LAX, DFW, CVG, NYC, ATL, or any other crew cities I'm forgetting. They might fly to BWI and turn around and go back to ATL, and finish up the day in JAX...just a make believe day. Or, they might stay overnight in BWI and fly to ATL or another DL hub the next morning. Only at the end of the trip do they have to return to the flight crew base (although there's a good chance that they'd stop in sometime during the trip anyway).
