ok... i'm staying at the cortyard (Miami West if you know were that is) and its really cool. I can almost see the planes from my room (they go over it and of course the darn door to the patio in the room DOESN'T WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, my dad took me for a tour of the outside of the airport... here's what i saw.

Terminal A was empty except for a LanChilie and/or a Vareg. I only saw 2 count em 2 AA planes, I'm assuming that they had just had a "push" as one of those 2 were leaving and shortly thereafter (ANOTHER PLANE JUST CAME OVER ME! OPEN YOU STUPID DOOR, could have been an AirTran 717 from ATL!!!!) and all i saw arriving was AA. I saw a DL 767 at concouurse H, a viraty of airlines, CO, NW, and AirTran. I saw an Alaska plane in there as well. (Alaska doesn't serve MIA at that time of day, around 9 AM, so why did i see it?)
I saw a DL plane on the runway and a lot of american Eagle/Connection/whatever. I also saw a UPS, 2 FEDEX (an MD-11), and some commercial planes land last night.

THATS MY STORY!

you want to take some good pictures?

Go to the MIA hotel, at the top, in the eight level.

At 5 to 7 PM thats the peak time in MIA so if you will like take advantage of that, since now here in MIA it gets dark by 8PM.

didn't bring a camera. and i'm going to dinner tonight. i am having fun guessing the plane by the engine noises.

NEXT Time I'm in town, and i try to come at least once a year to visit family/friends I will stop in the Airport hotel (hopefully off a plane) and take some photos.

how is the airport hotel to stay in

It sucks,

Dont even think about paying 100+ dollars for a night stay.

But the only thing good is that in that same eight floor, there is a pool, and its very nice up there.

I go sometimes during my breaks, I work at MIA.

what do u do at Mia... do you work for an airline? u don't have to answer the question if you don't want to. I wish we flew here, it makes the trip almost pointless!

One year I was there I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on the north side of the airport across the road from all the hangars. I got a top floor and had a pretty good view of some of the planes taking off at least on 9L

MIA appears not to be spotter friendly, but the hotels around it and in it are very spotter friendly. much better than FLL except for the Marriott Marina which has good shots of planes taking off and landing from tht top floors

I flew thru MIA about 5 yrs. ago and I was with a group a people. We had dinner at a resturant that was directly across the street from one of the runways there. The resturant had large windows and it also had headphones at some of the tables that monitored Tower's frequency. I think the name of the place was something like The 47th Airborne? I do remember an old C-47 that sat out front and I remember 47th being in the name anyway, it was a very cool place to watch planes as well as having a great dinner. The decor was set around the WWII era. Good Luck Spotting!!!

It's been a while since I've been in Miami, but the top floor of the parking garages used to be a great place to see what's going on. They are on the east side of the airport, so you would have a great view of most departures; since the wind usually comes from the east there.

There is also a nice bar/restaurant at MIA overlooking the ramps that gives you a pretty great view and I found the prices quite reasonable (at least they were two years ago)...Jack
