How long will USAirways Express's Dash 8s stay in the fleet? I ask this because of the major RJ order they placed and because some of the routes aren't made for RJs! So I was curious as to how long they'd be around. I was also wondering if Piedmont has any more flights up here in the North, or if they've just stayed south? i.e outta PIT? Thanks!

Granted I don't currently work there, I worked for Piedmont in TLH before they downsized (from 27 flights to 3). At that time, the plan was to keep the Dash 8's around for the foreseeable future. The majority of them are fairly new. That being said, there is no more Dash 8 flying in Florida. At one time, Piedmont and CCAir had a fairly extensive inter-Florida network. Those routes were taken over by Mesa and now are flown by Beech 1900's under Air Midwest. The only Dash 8 cities left in Florida are TLH and GNV, both of which have service to CLT by Piedmont. Piedmont currently has Dash 8 service out of all US hubs (PIT, PHL, and CLT) as well as a good-size operation at DCA.

Yup no more Dash 8's in Florida, but you will continue to see them in PHL, DCA, CLT and PIT for the time being. At Piedmont, the future is very uncertain, since management seems to be bent on farming out most of the RJ flying to those wonderful folks over at Mesa . Piedmont will continue to operate through 2004, but we will lose 7 Dash 8's this year. These airplanes are going back to leasors who were not interested in renegotiating the terms on those airplanes.
And now for the "Rumors From the Line" segment of my post:
As US Airways did not want to lose the 7 Dash 8's that will disappear (since they still don't have enough RJ's at Mesa and Mid Atlantic has yet to operate) in December, it is being discussed that if other Dash-8's to replace them cannot be found at a reasonable lease cost we may see some Saabs on the property. Stay tuned!
