Stu,
Because you live in the UK Im going to guess that you will fly out of LHR. In that case every flight is a 777. The service is good, nothing out of this world. The PTV's really help the flight go by as well as the MRTC.

I have had only good experiences with American. AA 777 is right. If you depart out of LHR, you will be on a 777, which is are very comfortable aircraft. Service is very consistent, while friendliness of the flight attendants is hit or miss. Food is moderate - as good as can be expected. I always choose AA first, and now that they are lowering their fares, I think they will see an upsurge in business. For flights between the UK & the US, BA is my first choice, but AA comes in a close second. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

All --
I used to know what the above acronym translated to, but I'm having a brainfart, and cannot recall what it means. Can anyone please refresh my aging memory? Thanks!

American Airlines, I must say, is a good airline. I haven't had any problems with them when travelling. And they are true to their slogan - more room in coach...very true...I've flown them on these routes:
LAX-JFK
LAX-IAD
IAD-LAX (2x)...and all 4 of my experiences have been on the whole, "good"...particularly I was very satisfied with the IAD-LAX 2nd trip, in 2001...very good service on a B752. However, on the first IAD-LAX service, the plane was delayed about 3-4 hours in Dulles airport due to weather and other aircraft etc, and the airline said sorry by giving out headsets for "free"...I thought that was pretty lame...but on the whole, it's a pretty good airline.
