This is great to hear. Way to go Toledo!

It was always nice on Midwest Express to be welcomed home by "Your Omaha-based crew" when coming back into OMA.

Ah, to be based in TOLEDO!! What a joy!

Hey, I'm allowed to poke fun at Toledo. I used to live in Bowling Green.  Big grin

LOL. Not that bad of a place to live - moved back from being in OKC (Norman) for 5 years. There are always worse places to be based.  Big grin

Ouboy79, I'll take the flatlands of BG over Toledo. My brother went to UT, so I have reason to be biased against it.  Big grin

So do I,Flyinryan99, especially since I went to BG at the same time. Younger brothers-they just don't learn.

...although UT always just kicked out asses in football when we were at our respective schools. I've never heard the end of it. Big grin

Speaking of never hearing the end of it. Mr. Flinn Rinn will be forced to join me in Norman in 2004. Just happens my beloved Sooners have scheduled BG. Of course it will be a complete mauling...but it'll be fun.  Smile

TMA just did a mass FA recruitment in Orlando, seemed to be a very sudden decision. Successful, as were most potential FA candidates who attended, were offered a one week lead in to attend a three week training course in Toledo - starting this week. They were promised the local Orlando Sanford, FL as a home base - 60 hour guarantee at $18.00 plus $1.50 per diem.

Is the slated Toledo hiring a second wave or could the company have changed their minds in less than a week? Based on the current schedule, it seems like SFB is the more viable base for TMA.

Still, it's nice to see a new airline finding a niche, and their fares from the Orlando (area) to Las Vegas are almost too good to believe, and non-stop twice a week.

What shape are those B752's in? I believe at least one is ex National? I checked the outdated JetPhotos list and found a couple of ex Air Europe birds; I flew on G-BNSD brand new way back in 1989 - ancient history! We know the age of the 727s.

I wish TMA well, but SFB still has the Orlando stigma - and not one to be shaken off easily. There are still many of folks that live in all areas of Orlando that could not place Sanford on a map, nor know how to get there!

"Toledo - Detroit area"
Sorry TMA, but if you're banking on Metro Detroiters driving to TOL's airport (liven its actual location, the airport's too far out of the way -- especially for the northern suberbs), then your operations at TOL won't last long... hopefully low-fare hungry TOL pax will fuel your operations.

If I had any chance of getting employed by them, I would so apply. Oh, well. Shibby for those that get in.

TOL's draw area doesn't go too far into the Metro Detroit area. From the statistics compiled monthly by the Port Authority you are looking at something like this:

Monroe, MI curving around to Ann Arbor down to Coldwater then over to Angola, IN down to Van Wert, OH over to Findlay and up to Sandusky. Total catchment area is around 1.5 million people.

Of course with fares being marketed as low as they are, people will drive down from at least the central and southern portions of the Detroit metro to use TOL. Orlando is the #3 O&D city from TOL with ATA doing 30-35 ppd on their own. Either way, the new service will go a long way to recapture the nearly 70% of the local market that drives to DTW.

LAS is filling up for the first month of flights so far and SFB is catching up. They shouldn't have to rely on Detroit too much to fill these flights.

Don't forget the people who live in Florida.....I'm sure they'll take advantage of it too....It's a two-way street.
