I know that when we dropped of someone at the airport (and when they still allowed us to go to the gate!), the person was scheduled for an Aeromexico flight from LAX-Mexico City-Pueblo, and at the gate was a Delta B757 instead - I was wondering, "are we at the right gate?"...so that's that...as for myself, I was transferred onto a Mexicana flight when I was supposed to be flying Aeromexico. This was from Cancun-Mexico City. The Aeromexico flight was overbooked, or we didn't get to the airport early enough, so we had to wait a short while for a Mexicana flight. Also: I was scheduled for an Indian Airlines flight From Delhi - Jaipur, and found out once the bus took us from the terminal to the plane, that we were flying an Alliance Air B737-200.

During the Comair strike, I was booked on DL from GSO-CVG-TOL. Delta could not accomodate me, so they put me on GSO-ATL (727) on DL, ATL-DTW (757) on DL and DTW-TOL (Saab 320) on Northwest.
Then on the way back, again TOL-CVG-GSO, overbooked to Atlanta, so they stuck me on TOL-ATL on Airtran (DC9) and ATL-GSO on Delta (757).

I was supposed to fly AA from BOS-JFK-ORY-GVA and because of an ice storm in BOS and JFK they re-routed us on NW BOS-FRA and LH FRA-GVA. I was pretty excited because, at that time, I had never flown on NW or LH. It was a pretty crazy day.

Twice..
Once booked on Virgin JFK-LHR, got to check in, and was told that the plane hadnt even left heathrow yet, and we were told we could wait, or fly BA, but the wait would be a long one. needless to say, I took the BA flight.
Second, flying SWF to CVG, I was booked on US from SWF-PHL-CVG, but due to weather, the flight to PHL was cancelled so they put me on Comair direct to CVG.

One time, I was booked on a Delta Flight from BIL-SLC, and when I got to the airport, they had not only switched us to United, but we were now going to DEN to connect, and people going to SLC would catch Delta out of DEN. My 2 leg trip turned into a three leg really quick.

Twice in a short time, both very unexpected results.
On Sep 10, 1978 Martinair flight MP 011 AMS - PMI was operated with
TEA Airbus A300B1 OO-TEF...
On Dec 04, 1978 International Air Bahama's DC-8-63CF TF-FLE taxied to the active at LUX for a flight to the Bahama's, when the anti-skid failed.
After another try everything and everbody was loaded onto Loftleidir DC-8-63CF TF-FLB

I was booked on a United Express CRJ that broke down (ACA) and we were rebooked BTV-BOS (American Eagle) BOS-CDG (Air France) CDG-KBP (Air France) aircraft were Saab 340, Boeing 767-300/ER, Boeing 737-500. The original one would have been BTV-IAD-VIE-KBP

and I was booked on Air Ukraine, and they yelled at us, didn't reaccomodate us... and we rebooked on Transaero from KBP-SVO.
(I'm not sure if this counts) but I was on a MetroJet 737-200 cancelled flight. From MHT-BWI. They called before we left for the airport (about 5hrs before departure, it was a long time ago) we asked them if we could leave from Burlington, and we got on US Airways Express from BTV-LGA-BWI.

I flew NWA-KLM DTW via AMS to Madrid. The tour group I was with had a 6 hour layover, (not that I minded), at Schipol, and in the end, they switched us to Iberia. For the troubles, KLM reimbursed every member of our group, (in cash), over 200 dollars worth of, at that time, guilders. One-by-one, they called out each persons name and handed us each a white envelope with a tiny KLM emblem on it filled with some goodies.
This is not intended to be a trip report, just a *detailed* reply...

A few years ago, I booked to fly LGW-ATL-LGW aboard DL. However, on the day of departure to ATL, the weather conditions in ATL were very poor, hence DL cancelled both of its daily flights to this city. Strangely, BA did not cancel, so all of DL's passengers, including me, were put on the BA flight which was, unsurprisingly, very full. The return leg was aboard DL. So I flew aboard a BA and a DL 772.

I was booked on a cheesy charter from LGB to JFK. I was told that I'd be flying United. However, I had doubts, because in 1984 United did not fly into London. When I got to Gatwick, I found out I was on a Rich International flight. At the time, I had never heard of that airline. Curious as to what I would be flying, I went to the observation deck, popped my 20p in a telescope and found my plane way out on the other side of the field, among some African airliners. I was reimbursed $10, better than nothing but hardly worth it to have to endure RI, the worst airline I have flown.

About 2 years ago, I was returning to College in Colorado after summer break and was scheduled to fly LIH-HNL-LAX on HA connecting to UA from LAX-DEN. However, as soon as I checked in at the HA counter in LIH, they told me that the DC-10 scheduled for the HNL-LAX leg broke down and they had to substitute with a different HA DC-10 that had 50 fewer seats. Because the flight was fully booked, they were asking for volunteers to be reaccommodated on other carriers.
Fortunately for me, HA offered to transfer me to the UA flight that was going from LIH directly to LAX. It made for an easier connection. HA credited my FF miles account in addition to the UA miles, which was nice. HA also ate the difference in price on the UA ticket. UA said it was about $200 more expensive to fly them direct to LAX from LIH instead of flying HA LIH-HNL-LAX. My HA ticket from LIH-HNL-LAX was about $300. The UA ticket was about $500 purchased by HA at the UA counter.
