Do You Choose Flight Based Upon Airline?

Do you prefer to select the flight aboard which to fly based upon the airline? For instance, several years ago I had the option of flying KL or KQ AMS-LHR. I chose KQ because it is rarer and more interesting than KL. I think I would always prefer to fly aboard rarer airlines, where money allows.

I choose flights based on:

1) necessity
2) price
3) aircraft
4) airport
5) airline

not necessarily in that order.

Examples:

Airline:
Flew to Brest just to try Buzz before they disappeared
Flew to Washington separately from my family to fly Virgin instead of BA
my first Ryanair flight was motivated by the desire to try them

Price:
Took advantage of quite a few Ryanair, Go, Germanwings special offers
Flew to SFO when Virgin offered the flights for 97.50 pounds (incl taxes)

Aircraft:
Flew to Dublin to get on a 732
took a bus to Manchester to catch a Ju 52
Flew LCY-MUC to get on a turboprop (Dash 8-400)

Airport:
Flew LCY-MUC to experience LCY

Sounds very good to me! Big grin

When did VS offer a return trip (including taxes) from LHR to SFO for £97.50?

Only in my free time and up to a certain fare level.
E.g. I flew

> CGN-TXL-CGN just to try out HLX (wasn't very convinced BTW)
> ORY-GVA-ORY to get on EZY
> LGA-DCA-LGA to try out US
>ORY-NCE-ORY to get on IW and IJ

...there were a couple more, but I can't remember them right now.

During leisure travel, I often limit my choice to member airlines of my preferred frequent flyer programs.

Business trips are an entirely different question - the choice is chiefly driven by schedule and convenience. The name of the airline doesn't have an influence here.

I choose flights based upon
1- Time of day
2- Price
3- If I have flown the airline or the Euqipment serving the route.

In rough order of importance:

* Price
* Schedule
* Airline preference
* Frequent Flyer mile maximizing (sort of goes with airline, but not always - I've always been pretty happy with DL, but I haven't used them much since moving to New York, so I don't have any miles in that account.)
* Departure airport (JFK vs LGA vs EWR)
* Connecting hub (if any, there's a few I'd prefer to avoid, especially in the winter)
* Arrival airport (mainly for LA - prefer to go into BUR over LAX, etc.)
* Equipment
