On flights within the U.S., all electronic devices must be shut off from the time the aircraft door is closed for departure until the aircraft reaches an altitude of 10,000 feet. Electronic devices must be shut off again when the aircraft descends below 10,000 feet on approach for landing. Cellular phones cannot be used from the time the door is closed until arrival at the destination gate although some airlines have relaxed the rule for cell phones to allow their use any time while the aircraft is on the ground. All of the above is very specifically stated with onboard announcements at the appropriate times.
