I had a little time to kill today...usually I like to look on the web for cheap fares to places I plan to visit in the near future. Just for fun, I played around with Delta's website to try to get the most expensive ticket for a nonstop flight. The best I could do was an unrestricted ticket (leaving today) on ATL-NRT-ATL on an MD11, one leg first, one leg coach (I guess first was full) for "$10,000.84" They really need that extra .84, don't you know! Does anyone really pay that for a ticket?!?
The only rule for this contest is that the flight must be an online bookable, nonstop, rountrip flight between any two cities in the world. I'm sure some of you have run across higher fares in your flying lifetimes.

Delta to ZRH connecting to
Swiss to KUL
A total of 30 hours and 20 minutes
Inbound:
Malaysia to ICN connecting to
Asiana to SFO connecting to

LOL...that'll be the day. The only person from Flint who could afford that service would be the infamous Michael Moore!

Some amazing numbers here, but please keep in mind the rules
1. nonstop roundtrip flights between 2 cities
2. Fares must be online bookable. Most charter airlines/corporate jets are not.

A few months ago I was checking out EWR-MCI, LGA-MCI, JFK-MCI and BDL-MCI. On CO, which I recently flew for the *lowest* price to SEA from EWR, I saw a fare to MCI of $3240. That's about $2.50 per mile (I could take a cab for less!). And that was coach!
Also saw some flights on UA for that same SEA trip for over $3000.
But I accept your challenge!
N/S LAX-SYD, First Class, UA and AA: $12696, August 21 through August 28 of this year. Both are approx 14 1/2 hour flights (just like their few-dollars-less Australian and New Zealand counterparts).
Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it in summer school.

One time, I saw a fare on DL, I forget the exact route, but it was JFK-Germany via CDG, and the fare was around $1,100,000. The J class fare for this exact same route was around $4500. I think it was a glitch, but I remember there being a post on it, and I investigated it and it was true.

Boy would they love to have that kind of money from you! You'd make the flight go anyway even if no one else booked a seat!

You've got to wonder if anybody actually pays 10-15,000 dollars for a plane ticket. That's the price of a Honda Civic!!!
Maybe I should start another thread...what's the highest price you've paid for a ticket?
