Air Canada will suspend two European services from Toronto this winter. Service to Madrid will be suspended effective 14 October and Rome effective 26 October. These are seasonal suspensions, as they resume 4 April 2004. Despite both being seasonal markets, Air Canada had previously served them year-round. The cuts make sense, IMO.

It only makes sense, these routes are much better for yield during spring through fall..

That is extremely surprising, especially on YYZ-FCO..

Anyway, most of the non-LHR/CDG/FRA/MUC routes will be seasonal, they just dont make the necessary yield to guarantee winter success.

These aircraft "power by the hour" can be extremely useful on some routes down South. I.e YYZ-MIA, perhaps YUL-MIA  Big thumbs up, YYZ-MEX etc.

AC and AZ have been alternating YYZ-FCO for years. AC summer & AZ winter. IS AZ picking up YYZ-FCO again for the winter? If so, this is not news....just the norm.

Panam, TWA, Ansett, Eastern.......AC next? Might be good for Canada.

OK OK, I personally hate it when others post annectdotal experiences, but I must in this case! I flew YYZ-FCO in August 2000 on AZ in a 747 classic and was delayed 26h. Oooooh, it was the pits. Ooooh. The delay was handled poorly and as much fun as it was to fly a 747 Classic, the novelty wore off after the ancient IFE and unbelievably uncomfortable seats took their toll. The ageing and dismissive AZ crew did little to earn their paycheck. Overall, bad bad bad. Bad!

buhh bye
