I love the short -500/-600 too, but the -700 is tops in my book for look and feel and the -200 for nostalgic value. The -300/-400 bother me only because the wing seems so cluttered and small for aircraft of their size.

my fav is the -800 with winglets. i have flown on them 5 times and its great watching the huge 2.5 meter tall winglet bounce up and down like a yo-yo while taxying. (beats watching the same stupid safety demo time after time)

While I'm a big fan of 'Ol Stubby 737-200 and have enjoyed flights on the -300 and -400 series as well, the 737NGs I've flown in, the 700 and 800 are my favorites. They are such smooth flying aircraft, and their new interiors are really nice. The -700 is easily the best looking variant to me, it's proportions are just perfect. I've yet to fly on one equipped with winglets, though.

I flew a lot of 200's during my childhood holidays around the med. they where basically standard equiptment for charter airlines back then. The A320 of the day I suppose. However it was my first ride in the new generation 400 that I liked best.
This occured in November 1993 when I flew MAN-TFS on a Futura 737-400 EC-FLD. I liked the less stumpy appearance, and aslo the double overwing exits, which somehow make it look a little more superior. The only other one I have flown was BA's G-GBTA. Now even the 400's are outdated.
Of the next generation I have flown MME-ACE on Futura 737-800 EC-HHH and also EDI-TFS on Air Europa 737-800 EC-HZS, with winglets. I like the new cabin interiors but I will always remember the first 400 I flew in.

I would have to say the 800/900 I like those winglets. The 200 is was a inferior product of the 60's when compared to a 727 or a 707, witch it design come from. I heard a 200 can only cruise at 0.72 compared to a 727 0.84 0r a 707 0.83 or even 800/900 0.78.
