Hi... has anybody out there had any experiences on Cathay Pacific out of Australia in Y-class recently? I'm heading to London next month, but haven't flown with Cathay for a few years. Appreciate any feedback.

Yes, I flew CX last year in November from MEL to HKG, ICN and TPE, they had excellent service, the crew's were friendly and professional and generally pleasant, aircraft were spotless. In flight entertainment was good, wide choice of films and shows were available. Leg room was terrible but I am quite tall. Food I found quite dissapointing, bland and tasteless (unusal for an Asian airline). Nice ammenity kit for all Y passengers, (Eyeshades, socks- I think and a mini-toothbrush with toothpaste)
I would rate them on par with Singapore Airlines, Malaysia Airlines etc. You should enjoy them to London, just make sure to try and get an exit row if you are on the tall side otherwise you can enjoy your legs being crushed.

I flew them from SYD to HKG late last year, my plane had the new Y class so it was nice. I agree with Chris the service was extremely pleasant as always, and so were the IFE and the food.
I had requested an exit row seat (funny that they did not object to my request, I must look older than 17!), which made for an excellent flight (I had two seats to myself to boot).
So far they are one of my favorite airlines!

Before the SARS most flights ex Aust were A346 and 747-400. Although now that they are back to the normal schedule it is now operated by A330's, that's judging by MEL/SYD, do not know which aircraft for the PER/BNE schedule.
Still a great aircraft, flew on them back in 2001 in y class great trip all round except the leg room, but yeh try for the exit row for the leg room if you can.

Took an A340-300 from Auckland to Hong Kong return not too long ago (two years ish). Didn't have the new flat beds in Business class, but service and food were great. The plane was in good repair and knowing they've now got an improved Business class, I'd fly them any day over almost every other airline.

I had the pleasure of flying Cathay Pacific for the first time this past May and June. It sure beats flying Air Canada! I did a YVR-HKG-PER-SYD-AKL-HKG-YVR leg (PER-SYD-AKL on Qantas).
I found that Cathay's service and basic cabin appeal is awesome. The cabins are clean, and the IFE sure keeps you very preoccupied. The FAs are extremely nice. I had developed a bronchial irritation days before I flew and just coughed uncontrollably. The FAs were very nice and checked on me throughout the flight (although the passengers around me were very uneasy--c'mon I have bronchial irritation, not SARS!).
If you ever have to fly the 744s, pick the Y class seats at the very rear of the aircraft. They are in a 2-4-2 configuration and there's lot of room for carryon stuff beside the seat and the window.
