Which are the latest commercial turboprops on the market? Who makes them? Who buys them? Are they still popular or are they a dying race?

This is a great question -- I know Saab has ceased production of its models. Does anyone know if Dornier or Embraer still manufacture their turboprops? What about Beech or Aerospatiale?

"Lose" is not spelled with two o's!!!!

I'm pretty sure Beech is still cranking out the 1900Ds along with Kingairs (some are used for commercial charter I guess).. Not sure about the others though.

The latest model is the de havilland Dash 8-400. Very quiet very fast. There definitely is a market for props still, as they offer a lot of comfort due to new technology. Short runways, short hops are typical markets for props and always will be. Prop manufacturers I can think of are De Havilland and ATR, another European consortium.
Buyers are typically regional airlines. Cant think of a low cost airline operating them as there isnt an awful lot of money to be made.

I think Air New Zealand was the last order of the Beech 1900Ds, between 10 and 20, cant think of the number right now. And the line is now closed.

ATR-72-500 (or -300) wit six-blade props.

And there will be a cargo version of the ATR 42.

(plus the Chinese AN26 copycat)

No other I can think of which are still in production. Production has ceased for:

Raytheon Beech 1900 c/D
Fairchild Metro 23
Fairchild Dornier 328-100
BAe Jetstream 31/32
BAe Jetstream 41
BAe Jetstream 61 (ATP)
Saab 340B
Saab 2000

As for the Embraer 120, possibly it is still built on demand, but the last pax delivery has been in 1999.
