I was reading an aviation book and it said that Airbus had cancelled the projects of A316s and A317s. My question is, what were those aircraft? Were they going to be small, or big? Anyone know more info. I would like to know more about these aircraft.

I  Love BOI

I think A317 and A316 would have been smaller (too small  Smile/happy/getting dizzy)

ARJ's perhaps? I mean, the A318 is considered a cross between a "real" airliner & a regional jet.

The AE316/AE317 projects were planned together with the Chinese aviation industry and would have represented a new 100 seater based on an entirely new design.

Later, the project was cancelled due to economic reasons as it was considered as to costly and Airbus decided to go for the low cost A318 solution.

I remember reading a Flight International article on this. The project was to have a 5 across layout in economy, but with similar flight deck and avionics systems.

One fo the reasons the project was cancelled was British touchiness over things like wing design being transferred to China. The same churlish behaviour by the British prevented/prevents cooperation between Airbus and Indian companies over other aviaton projects as well, like the Airbus A300 Freighter conversions done at Hindustan Aeronautics.
