It wouldn't have been on the LGW-PHC. They would never send an 346 there. The A343 isn't even half full on that route.
I think it would most likely be either an LHR diversion or a training flight of some sort, although I don't recall anyone mentioning that the 346 had been into LGW.
Maybe Airchabum can help on this one........

Are you sure it was June/July.
The only visit of a VS A340-600 i know of was on the 13th April where G-VOGE arrived as flight VS805 from Dublin after getting the new upper class suite fitted. It arrived at about 9:00am.

G-VOGE does not have the new Upper Class suite fitted. None of the A/c that are in service at the moment have it.
G-VTOP has been in DUB for the last few months trying to have the new suite fitted to it, but has suffered from lots of setbacks that keep on delaying it's re-entry into service.
I'll try and find out why it was at LGW though.

Leezyjet, When i flew to SFO (G-VBIG) and from LAX (G-VWOW) they both had it fitted.
Sorry maybe it hadn't just had the Upper Class Suite fitted but i remember, it came from Dublin as VS805 and it parked next to a BA B777 on the remote stands near the control tower. I just presumed that because it was from Dublin it had just had it fitted

Hello...I've just got back from a week in Moscow To answer some points:
Yes I remember a 346 did come in to LGW a month or 2 ago...it was operating VS251 Shanghai-Heathrow and I think diverted due to thunderstorms at LHR. I'll check when I'm back at work if anyone is still interested in a weeks time!
I don't recall VOGE positioning in from DUB in April and I don't know why it would as all 346 services are operated ex-LHR. There were some maintenance flts to DUB and ZRH a while ago but as I recall they all went from/to LHR.
BIG and WOW both have v:port IFE fitted (as do the 346's) but not the new Upper Class Suite, which as Leezyjet said is slowly being fitted to TOP.
PHC loads have picked up and they are often now FULL inbound to LGW!!
