I am supposed to fly CO from SAN-IAH-MIA-EWR0SAN soon, and I was wondering, what can I expect? Are CO flights usually enjoyable, or are the dreary, as I have read?
thank you!

However..

Continental service, I find, are usually very hit or miss as far as flight attendants are concerned. However, usually Continental is above average when it comes to service food at various times of day- and only once have I been dissapointed by this service. The pilots are almost always informative and up for a cockpit visit after landing, and the planes are USUALLY clean (although if you are on a 757-200 and N17105 pulls up to your gate, god help you). Also, in delays and cancellations, in my experience, Continental has been very forthcoming and generous, going so far as to supply my family with a hotel voucher (this was 4 years ago) after our flight was postponed till tomorrow due to weather (although not cancelled).

All in all, I would expect a slightly better experience on Continental then on American or United, as I find the coach class level of service to all around be higher. The only thing that could make your trip a real disaster is if you get one of Continental's bad crews- but I suppose that is something you could hit on any airline.

Also, dont expect smiles from the agents at EWR- they can be a tough bunch!

Have a nice flight

Hi! I've only been flying with Continental 4 - 5 times, but I really liked it. The staff on the ground, as well as during flight are good. The service are usally pretty good. But nothing great.

Klm all the way!

In general I have been very pleased with Continental. I suppose if you fly any airline enough times, you end up experiencing one or two bad flights. On the whole though, Continental comes up on top over the competition. The overall product they offer beats any US airline out there. You can look up a few of my trip reports if you wish. On the whole I have been very pleased with them and continue to fly them out of choice.

Yes Continental is very good. They supply such things as magazines, meals at meal times, and things that make customer satisfaction rank so high at continental. But Most importantly, you'll fly with the most professional men and women anywhere in the world. There committed as they have been for the past 8 years, to providing you, clean safe and reliable transportation, everytime you fly.  Big grin

LOL... It was I. Now that I think about it, I may have been a bit harsh on Continental in my trip reports, but who wouldn't be when they experience things like that. On the other hand though I also mention a lot of positive points about Continental as well in my trip reports. Continental may not be the best in everything, but they come pretty darn close when compared to the rest of the US majors. You can't deny, I do say a lot of positive about Continental in my trip reports as well.  Big grin

I have had 4 very good flights with continental. The only thing that I found somewhat humerous was the "Gordon Bethune promo of CO" on the safety demo video.

CO is very very nice to fly. Not only is the service great...their on time service exceeds any other aircarrier I have flown. I would highly recommend anyone to fly CO and their alliances DL and NW.

CO = Great service and a good flight!!!!  Smile

I've flown CO enough to have been Silver Elite five times, Gold once and Platinum once. Uniformly, they have been friendly, professional and gracious. The aircraft have been clean and well maintained. They have better coach class service than anyone else in the air, which mitigates their 31" seat pitch. Upgrades for Elites are frequent and easy to obtain. Baggage handling is outstanding. Fixing their mistakes when things go wrong is almost always very well handled. People who work for Continental generally don't complain about the company that they work for. Not every customer contact is made of gold, but they are usually at least competent. In the seven years that I have been speaking of, Continental has made two big mistakes with my travel, and one little one. Each time, the recovered nicely, and made it right, which is about as much as can be expected. They recovered well enough that I didn't shift my business to other carriers.

Here I go... on about Continental again:

1) Flight attendants were quite rude. We could not figure out why we needed to be interrogated as to why we wanted the whole can of soda vs. only half. For Christ's sake it's only a can of soda!

2) Newark Customer Service was rude, aloof and unprofessional. Responses to questions asked were very terse leaving customers trying to figure out what to do next. They made no attempt help us out due to missed connections that were their fault. It was like we were punished for their mistakes.

3) Holier-than-thou attitudes in Los Angeles when their 'Self Check-In' kiosks were not working and we had asked for assistance. The CSA saw that I had a United baggage tag on my suitcase and proceeded to comment that I should fly United next time (which I will continue to do).

4) Orange County baggage service agents were unwilling to answer questions and kept referring us to their '800' number for answers. Are they just dumb figures there to hold up their counters? I really wanted to know if they had a "pull-string" attached to their backs. They also would say one thing and then contradict themselves only to finally deny they ever said it originally. Again, could their "pull-strings" be stuck?

I had similar poor service in 1988 and had vowed to avoid them. When I bought my ticket this time, I was adamant about it but decided to give them another try. The first time I received poor service on Continental, shame on them! Fifteen years late when I again received poor service on Continental, SHAME ON ME!

I will continue to fly United where I am treated as a valued customer.

I have been extremely pleased with CO ever since Gordon Bethune took over. The previous CEO's attitude reflected over to the staff and that was bad. I have flown 6 segments this year and will continue flying CO as long as they are around. I also used to work for them back in 1996 and enjoyed it. Of course I am not being prejudiced or anything mind you. I was on a CO flite from CO / KMCO), USA - Florida">MCO-EWR-YYZ and our aircraft went on MX after leaving the gate and the crew was really good about providing info and the ground staff really looked out for those of us with tight connex in EWR and they rerouted us thru CLE and got me into YYZ about 10 mins earlier than if I would have stayed on my original flights.

I just flew CO from EWR to NRT. I must say that I was pleased with all aspects of the flight. Both flights CO 8, and CO 9, departed on time and arrived about 45 min early. The pilots were very informative. The staff on the airplane was very warm and nice. I also thought that the coach seats on the 777 were relatively comfortable and the leg room sufficient. I got off the airplane and my legs did not feel cramped as they usually do after such a long haul flight. Their IFE was also pretty good, I liked the video game options. The 777 is also a pleasure to fly in. All in all it was a very positive experience and I would definitely strongly consider CO on my next long haul flight.

I am in my second year as a silver elite member of the OnePass program, and if I had my choice as a paying passenger, I would fly Continental. 99% of my flights have been professionally staffed with enthusiastic personnel who actually take pride and ownership in the company they work for, and (surprise!) they enjoy their jobs.

Not every flight on ANY airline is going to be perfect. But for my money, give me the one of the youngest fleets and the friendliest personnel in the industry any day.

(I am among the seeming majority of people who think that most of the EWR based ground staff could benefit from finishing school and in depth customer service training.)
