I want to eat at the Jet Rock Bar & Grill at PHL after some spotting and just sit at the end of the terminal for a while and watch planes, because I've finally convinced a friend of mine (not a plane-freak) to go to the airport when he's not flying anywhere. My question is, am I even allowed past the security checkpoints without being a passenger on an outgoing flight? There's places to eat at the ends of terminals B, C, D, E, and F that I'd go to. I've only flown once so far after 9/11, MHT to BWI, and I can't remember if they checked my ticket at security.

Am I out of my mind to get through without a ticket, or is it allowed?

Nope, won't happen. You need a ticket for the airline on whose concourse you would be traveling in order to gain access to said concourse.

The other way is to get an airport job that gives you restricted area access.
