klm's european fleet exists of boeings 737 -300/-400/-800/-900's,..

in the past some people thaught martinairs aquisition of 2 a/c in the a320 family would be a signal the klm group is thinking of changing to a320 family..

i'm aware that klm has her problems right now..

but what and when would we see (as) the replacement order for the -300 and -400 aircraft?

Future KLM fleet will probably be:

Long Haul -
Boeing 747-400

Long/Medium Haul -
Boeing 777-200

Medium Haul -
Airbus A330-200

Short Haul -
Boeing 737-800
Boeing 737-900

Maybe 73G

I see no good replacement candidate for the 737-300 ..

Is the 737-700 much cheaper to operate ?

They received bigger luggage binds & cockpit improvements recently.

oldest 737 are 12 (?) yrs old so should have another 10 yrs to go ..

They look good in the new livery

maybe KLM buys/leases some more of them, they are not expensive at the moment

Their cabins are a little dinged up/exuberant on the -300s and -400s from a passengers perspective. That's what my mom said. Put a new cabin in and your good as gold.

Hmm in my opinion :

Long Haul/ Medium Haul
Boeing 747-400 (e.g. US East coast)
Boeing 777-200ER (6 (!) aircraft scheduled for this winter)
Airbus A330-200 (can do most long hauls perfectly, including cargo)

Short Haul - (Europe including North Africa, Turkey etc. ~ 4 hrs)
Boeing 737-900
Boeing 737-800
Boeing 737-300

Short Short Haul (Western Europe)
Fokker 100/70/50

Looks like Good flexibility on all distances ...

777 are replacing 747-300 fleet.

The rest is uncertain at this moment. Only 16 777/330 are ordered at this moment (Although with 24 options to be filled in soon, mix unclear).

I attended a lecture of KLM's CEO, Mr. Drs. Leo van Wijk, last year. He explained KLM's strategy at the moment and said that KLM took advantage of the market conditions and got good deals with both Boeing and Airbus for their 777/330 order/lease. I also don't see KLM ordering/leasing any other Airbus aircraft than the A330-200 order they already placed. I do see a future for the 747-400ER with KLM once the first 747-400's of KLM need replacement. This is still some time from now. With KLM's order for both the 777 and A330 their longhaul requirement for the coming 15-20 years are pretty much covered. Maybe we can see a 7E7 order from KLM as soon as market conditions improve but I'm not the expert here so I don't know  Wink/being sarcastic

Hadn't KLM recently announced plans to retire 2 B733's and replace them by 1 B739?

I think they may choose for the B717 in future

It could both be a good replacement for the Fokker 100 and B737-300. Although I hope they will keep those fokkers flying for some time.

Future fleet:
A319, A320, CRJ, ERJ (in other words, the Air France fleet as KLM will be killed or absorbed by Air France quite soon if the "cooperation" goes ahead).

I think if the 739X goes though, they will not be the only one in Europe with it. Its prime for some of those long haul charters. Does KL plan on getting more? How many do they have now, of the 739?

They have four in service, and just ordered another one to be delivered next year.
