According to Miami Today News, MIA officials are talking with a new European carrier that expects to begin service to Miami this spring. The rumours are pointing towards Aer Lingus or TAP. MIA officals were recently in Dublin and Brussels speaking to airlines, and they are going to be visiting Lisbon shortly. For those unaware, MIA officals are traveling to 26 cities around the world to sell MIA to foreign carriers. They have no plans on offering incentive packages, however. Since the programme began, we have got Lufthansa to Munich, Finnair to Helsinki, and El Al same-plane to Tel Aviv.

GKirks, that would definitley be awesome. Any more information? bmiBaby doing MIA-MAN makes a hell lot more sense than doing MCO-MAN, which already has Virgin. Plus bmiBaby passengers could still make some Star connections.

I definitley think SAS at MIA is a question of when and not if, but I think they will wait until the new Star Alliance terminal is ready for occupation. It would be a nice "thank you" gift from the Star Alliance to Miami if SAS were to start MIA-CPH with the terminal's opening. After all, MIA is paying the bulk of the $850M bill for this state of the art terminal for the Star Alliance. The terminal is about 1/3 complete currently set to open in mid-2006.

God I would be so happy if BMI came in with that A330. MIA has so many unique aircraft and good European coverage. I really hope MIA keeps expanding. By the way, does anyone spot at MIA? I have been going everyday lately from 3:00pm - 5:30pm near the 12/9L/8 (hah) holes and haven't seen anyone...

MCI757, American Airlines has planned to introduce eight new non-stop domestic destinations from Miami this year. We already got the first five...CMH and PIT starts 5 July; Cincinatti starts 4 October; Indianapolis and Minneapolis 1 November. That leaves three more, and rumours are pointing to Kansas City, Phoenix, and Providence.
B752fantaic, Finnair begins 23 October. Flights operate on Thursdays and Saturdays. As a result, JFK-HEL is reduced to 5x a week. It will use a 2-class MD11. They are offering some real great fares for Miami-originating passengers. $549 to Helsinki and $599 to Tallin, Stockholm, Moscow, or St. Petersberg. Loads looking good too. On the inagural, the premium cabin has only four seats left.
Lufthansa begins Miami-Munich on 26 October with a daily three-class A340-300 service. On the inagural, Y is 132/197, C is 31/42, and F is 5/8. Not bad at all, and that is way before the real rush begins in December and still nearly two months left.
Also, I have it confirmed from a second source that bmi is indeed looking at starting MIA-MAN in time for summer. This would be great! Especially if we get bmi/bmiBaby and Aer Lingus.
I have a feeling any EI service would involve five weekly flights, three to DUB and two to SNN. Even though it seems the only way MIA will get EI is if the DUB/SNN rule is dropped, there is a good amount of traffic between Miami and Shannon. Aeroflot established themselves on that route during the 1990s.

Yes, Finnair did fly to FLL at one point. Weekly 757-200 via Bangor, Maine. At one point they were considering PBI as well. The Miami area has the largest Finnish population outside of Europe, but almost all of them live closest to PBI, which is why they were strongly considering PBI. In the end, MIA's connections oppurtunites, oneWorld hub, and international gateway status gave them the flight. Although there is no fooling, this flight is going to be nearly pure O&D, with the major connecting traffic being Miami<<>>Russia/Sweden. Finnair will re-evaulate the route near the end and consider running it year-round as they did in the past. Though they do expect to make this an annual year-round service.
For now, Lufthansa's service is also considered winter-only, but most signs point to it being offered year-round with a lesser 4-5x frequency during the summer.

I am not completely sure and am positive MAH definitely knows, but I believe AA has between 250-280 daily flights out of MIA. I too would like to see AA expand out of MIA, but the market and economy dictate more flights, so I hope things improve (like everyone else).

Where would you like to see AA go out of MIA transatlantic? Remember, it has to generate money!! The only routes that I would like AA to operate is FRA, which we did in the past. I cannot understand why AA does not reinstate this route, at least seasonally. In addition, I cannot understand why AA does not operate FLL YUL and YYZ seasonally. With all of the condoning that are here in season..

Yes, Frankfurt is one route but what about Italy...anyone know how many passengers go MIA-Italy? AZ only operates a 763 daily (load factors anyone?), maybe AA could fly to MXP or even FCO? Also, didn't Lauda operate a 772 from VIE? Couldn't AA fly that too?

AA777MIA, the FLL-YUL/YTO market is huge, of course, but Air Canada has it covered. This winter they are flying three daily FLL-YUL, 25 weekly FLL-YYZ, and two weekly each FLL-YOW and FLL-YQB. Plus the numerous charters on Skyservice and others and scheduled service on jetsGo (YUL and YYZ) and Air Transat (YYZ, YMX, and YQB). Yields are not that great.
Mia777, the Miami-Italy market is fairly big. Italians represent Miami's largest European community, with over 200,000 of Italian descent living in Miami and with about 35,000 of those actually born in Italy. Alitalia's MIA-MXP service is only a 767 right now because of aircraft shortage. During November it will be operated with an MD11. In fact, on 28 November, Alitalia's last MD11 flight will be on MIA-MXP. On 1 January it becomes a 777-200ER. Not even Boston nor Chicago have the 777s. It fills up easily with tourists, but does very well with yield because of fashion industry traffic and excellent cargo yields. I think American could make a very good go of Miami-Rome. It could work year-round because of Italian holidaymakers coming to Miami and Latin America in the winter and American/Latin tourists going in the summer. Brazil especially is a huge destination for Italians, and non-stop service between Italy and Brazil, especially Rome, has taken a huge hit in the past few years. Frankfurt could work as well, of course. Barcelona has potential, and so do Brussels and Manchester. Knowning American, I think there is a realistic chance we may see AA add MIA-FRA and/or MIA-BRU in the near future, because they can generate good yield. BCN would be all low-yield traffic, and FCO wouldn't have great yield either. The new HD 763s could make these routes worth a gamble, however. Thanks to the new HD 763s, we are now seeing JFK-FCO and the new daylight MIA-GRU flights.
Lauda's flights to Miami with 777s stopped in Munich. That is where the traffic came from. Lauda is currently operating VIE-MIA charter service for the summer season, and it is expected they will return to MIA by the time the new terminal opens, most likely MIA-VIE service 2x a week. AA would not be able to make MIA-VIE work.

Just another rumour, I know, but now I hear that if thing go as plan regarding the US/Ireland treaty, Aer Lingus will go ahead with San Francisco, but Miami service will be flown with a codeshare service operated by none other than American Airlines.
