There was a story on the local news tonight regarding SFO's terminals. The airport director stated that they may start the remodel of the "old" international terminal in two years. So, it looks like the terminal will remain vacant for the foreseeable future and there is no construction activity happening at this time.

Its been shut down for how many years and the renovating still hasn't begun? And still 2 more years until it begins? How pathetic. Any idea which airlines will use it?

JetsGo-
I'm pretty sure it's basically just a matter of the airport being undercapacity, and they don't need the room.
At least they have the luxury of a building ready to be torn down and rebuilt quickly, and at the heart of the airport. It sure does look tacky with all the fencing around it, but there is no reason to rebuild it at this time.

Perhaps the Airport Authority could do a basic remodeling of the public area of the Old International Terminal (the old check in hall that connects the North and South Terminals). The area looks really tacky now, like an abandoned building, with "Do Not Cross" tape strung everywhere and plants and benches strewn about. They could temporarily develop the area with shops or something it would seem.

AS739X said that construction had begun on the old terminal 2 already. He also said they are going to tear down the terminal closest to Intl area A so that the airport could utilize the gates. also, US Airways was going to move to the north terminal along with UA, and so was Air Canada, and that AA was going to move into the newly renovated Terminal 2.... thats what ive heard.

Nope. I was out there this morning and not a spade of dirt was being moved. The place is a ghost town and look for another two years before anything substantial happens. The airport does not need the extra capacity at this time. When it was mentioned that Alaska might move to the new International terminal, this was to generate more foot traffic for the stores/ food courts.

Legacyins- there is some work being done over there. I was behind the scenes with a buddy from the tower and some work (out of sight of the public) was being done. They did say it was low priority. There is no rush except from UA who wants it gates that AA is using back.
Jetsgo- pathetic? Why? there is no reason for the airport to go more into debt do remodel it now. They finish a huge multi million dollars terminal, remodelling and adding taxiways,a new train system,BART station, doing studys to add runway before 9/11.....would you have the money to remodel after that considering that pax use is down? Don't get me wrong I think they do some stupid stuff at SFO, but this it is smart not paying more money without airlines helping.
Like I said to Copa, first is to move US and YX, then take down the old A pier, that opens 3 new Intl gate that may actually be used for domestic airlines while other concourses, mainly B is remodelled. If the economy comes back you will see Terminal 2 under major remodelling ASAP.
