Has anybody ever been surprised by an unusualy low flying large aircraft? Perhaps caused by an emergency, or otherwise? I realise with the events of recent times this type of thing is taken more seriously now, but in some countries i do believe there are still some incidents where aircraft fly extremely close to houses, hills etc. I`d love to hear some stories, thanks.

I was at an airshow at YQF many years ago.... and had an CF-18 at full afterburner pass perhaps 20 feet over my head. A bunch of us were standing in the back of a pickup truck and had to duck as it went over.....

When I was a kid living in NJ I saw a really low-flying blimp, not sure what the type was. They got caught in some bad weather and descended lower and lower to get below the clouds I assume. The winds must have been incredible because the thing was pitching wildly at least 35º both up and down, maybe more. I can't imagine what it looked like inside. The ship leveled off right over my house, probably under 1000' AGL. I could hear the engines and they were surprisingly loud! It was so low that we thought they might try to land in a parking lot nearby but never heard anything else about it.

I was at a carnival event thingy in north kendall today......and there were two AA jets flying about a quarter mile behind each other heading for the same runway (at least i think so) in MIA. They were so low that I could actually see the AA on the jets.....and I believe we were about 10-15 miles from the airport.

In elementary school I remember hearing a rumble, and looking up and seeing a B-17 flying way low over our heads. what a sight and sound. It was headed for the Wing Over Gillespi flight show held here in SAN (well at SEE actually) every year.

I think i was 13 i walked out my of the garage and my dad looked up and pointed at a Delta 727 that was jetising (spelling?) fuel out of the wintips. He departed 31L at DFW and headed strait west. The entire time he was dropping fuel. He went directly over my house and then proceded to head over to alliance, i remember thinking he was going to make an emergancy landing there but he didnt. About 10 minutes later the rotation of the traffic went from TO on 31L to landings on 13R. So therefor i saw the 727 on a long final for 13R.
BTW: when he went over my house he was about 1500 AGL.
I think i was around 14 or 15. Was running on the track at our middle school and not really paying to much attention to the sky like i always do but it was hard to miss a DC-10. Being since its one of my favorite aircraft to watch i stopped running at just watched the AA DC-10 on a far out downwind into Alliance airport (AFW-Fort Worth,Tx) IF my memory is right i think the tail # was A164AA. YES he was that low, i felt the rumbling of the engines going through my chest. I dont think he had pax on board, he was probably just making a test flight or pilot training of some sort.

Had an E-4B(Air Force variant of 742) fly over me yesterday at about 1500 AGL. Although this isn't a big deal since I live close to Offutt AFB, he was jettisoning fuel out of the right wing, and not the left too. If anyone can explain this, feel free..

Last Week at Duxford Centenary of Flight Airshow, a South African Airways 747-400 (ZS-SAK) do a few turns at only 200ft off the ground. First ever 747 to display in the UK! (waiting for pictures to be screened)

Well, when the Japanese Airforce Boeing 747-400 visited Denmark, it flew VERY low over my house, i seriously thought it was going to crash or something, since my house ins't placed near the approach path at Aalborg, i guess they went on a little sightseeing trip before landing the big beast

I was out in front of my house (about 40 miles from MCI) and noticed a landing light coming toward me. It began a turn and passed over my back yard. It was a DC-10 that didn't look to be much more than 1,000 ft. AGL as it appeared that the right wing was over my back yard and the left wing was over my neighbors back yard... It proceeded westbound, but the only airport that way (Johnson County Executive) can't accomodate a DC10, so I am assuming that he was entering a long base leg for Johnson County Industrial. It was at night, so I couldn't make out any markings to see if it was an airliner, although you could see lights in the passenger cabin. Never read or heard anything about what it might have been in the following days.
