German airport DUS is closed due to a bomb threat today. The airport is evacuated and flights are being redirected to other German airports, mainly to CGN. No bomb was found yet.

Where did you get the news from that CGN is closed down as well? It does not say so in the article and all the other news agencies just report that DUS is closed. No mention of CGN anywhere.

Apparently CGN didn't. They said it earlier on RTL television and on n-tv but right now they don't say it anymore. I already changed my message above. Sorry for the wrong information. Just DUS is closed.

Seconds ago on German news channel n-tv: A Bundesgrenzschutz (federal boarder guard) spokesman said that he had no idea when DUS opens again, 130 officers are searching for the bombs.
Edit: Two EW flights are diverted to DTM, an IB and the daily EK flight from DXB are diverted to FRA, all other to CGN. I can imagine that there is a big chaos, today is the last day of school holidays here in Nordrhein Westfahlen.
The DUS homepage is down, maybe because too many people try to access it.

Latest News: DUS remain closed until evening (according to WDR 2 news at 16:00h), the information from the DUS forum that the airport is open again is nonsense.

Too bad... I just got a call from an a.neter that wants to fly back home to FRA from DUS this afternoon and I told him that it's open again after what I read here. Well kinda reminds me of the 9/11 thread here at the moment.

Did Airsicknessbag call you?
The bomb threat was against DUS airport in general but also against specific airlines which are not mentioned in an interview with an airport spokesman. There are still 180 officers and 7 "bomb dogs" on duty. The regional train station under the terminal is also closed and a lot of traffic jams are on the freeways around the airport. A federal border guard officer said in an radio interview that they hurry up to search the whole building as well as planes but the airport remain closed until evening.
For the German speaking members: Go to http://www.wdr.de, there you can listen to the latest interviews and reports from DUS.

From the reports I have seen, this was not your usual run-off-the-mill bomb threat, but something a little more substantial than a call from the usual dumbasses, who are trying to look cool this way (what is the translation for "Wichtigtuer" when you need it?).
It is the first time for more than ten years that DUS has been closed down to such an extent due to a bomb threat.

I wonder if the situation in CGN is like on April 16 (or was it 17) 1996, when DUS was closed due to the terminal fire. I had to pick my parents from their LTU flight up that day - it became an interesting evening to say the least.

Sorry, Max - it's ecological nonsense to fly trips like DUS-FRA. So a good possibility to join Deutsche Bahn's bullet-trains for 90 minutes (about 225 km/130 miles).
We should keep our airports free of this stupid short-trips. Even Lufthansa has cancelled (most of) all their FRA-CGN and FRA-STR - flights. So I hope this will continue and we will get more cooperation train/flight.

Still no confirmed reports if DUS is open or closed. Their website seems to be working again, but very very slow. Can't find any news about this on any UK channels.

When I have the choice between a train or a plane I choose the plane of course, also on the so called ecological nonsense routes. Last year we had a lot of a.net meetings at FRA and I always flew from DUS or from DTM.

I remember the day very well, one day before the big fire I arrived back at DUS from a one week nonstop drinking party at Mallorca.

Sorry, Sabena, it's not a "so called" ecological nonsense, it IS ecological nonsense. I know that it is not popular to say in airliners-forum but we should think about using our transportation-systems.
And FRAPORT, other german airports, airlines, and Deutsche Bahn are working on a concept to bring passengers from short german flights to train: there is no advantage in time, no advantage in price, no advantage in comfort.
Let's wait cpl of weeks and first fog will come, flights will be cancelled and people have to change to trains.
Only can laugh about them when they are angry and have to stand in train cause they didn't make seat-reservations. They should use their brain.

Sabena332,
no, I called Max. DUS was a mess today. I arrived at the airport terminal (at about 6.05 pm) and proceeded directly to the LH check in counters where they just started an announcement that all flights to FRA would be cancelled. Thus I proceeded (as I was only holding a standby ticket anyways) right back to the airport train station (luckily I found a bus driver that would take me on, as the first one I asked simply refused to take anyone back to the train station).
Just before I left, there were about a dozen police men running through the terminal and shortly afterwards about 10 fire trucks pulled up in front of the terminal. Does anyone have any information on what caused the hassle at 6 pm? Did they find unaccompanied baggage or something like that?
DC-10 Levo,
as you can see UA777 edited his first post. Initally he wrote that both DUS and CGN had been closed down. Now, this was not his fault as some media stations here in Germany simply spread some rumors.

ZSSNC,
thanks for your little report, I just saw pictures from today in the Tagesschau, now I can imagine the chaos at DUS today. Sorry I don't know what happened at around 6pm, they mentioned nothing in the radio (I was listening to WDR 2 the whole afternoon and evening).
I am lucky that they didn't find a bomb and that nobody is injured. I hope the police will find these stupid morons who are responsible for this.
