It sems that they were caught with a load of duty frees, though how 9 members are stopped at 'random' is a bit strange. I imagine that they were set up, probably because they were taking a bit too much. Management could get customs to do their dirty work so they didn't look bad.

Doesn't it clearly state in their working contract? No duty free articles to be taken off the plane unless sealed inside a container?

I don't have any sympathy for the crew, I'm just a little dubious at the methods used to catch them.

They know the rules on this and are reminded of it often enough.

I agree - rule are rules. Whether this was a 'set-up' is irrelevant - if you keep to the rules, random searches shouldn't bother you.

Its not that the check was made of random crewmembers, but rather that HM Customs periodically pics flights at random where they screen all the crew.

The fact that 9 crew on that flight came up with contraband just goes to show how widespread the problem of pilferage among airline crew (not just BA) has become.

I agree completely. GBP300 stolen on one 767 flight by staff! That works out to about GBP1.5 per passenger! Which will reflect in higher fares as BA passes on the cost of the flight to customers!

I'm annoyed that these thieves were only given police cautions. They should have been charged with theft. I hope they are fired by BA as an example to all employees.

I dumped at the gybe mark in strong winds when I looked up at a Porter Q400 on finals. Can't stop spotting.

These cases usually result in dismissal.
On the subject of BA cabin crew and the law, they've managed to get one 'offence' removed from the list that can prevent you from having airside access (there is a big review of workers with airside access and any previous convictions going on right now), it is a conviction for having sex with animals.
Thought I'd share that with you all.
